Thinking of building a shuttle. Main use will be general home use and video editing.

The specs will be:

£ 187.94

2. 512MB DDR PC3200 400MHz + Alum. heat spreader (branded Geil)
£ 52.29

3. Intel® Pentium® 4 3.2GHz (800MHz) Hyper threading 512K cache Retail inc.Fan (3 year warranty)
£ 187.94

4. LG GSA-4081B 8x DVD Beige +/-R/RW IDE Retail
£ 81.66

5. 1.44MB 3.5" FDD Sony Black
£ 7.05

6. 160 GB Maxtor 7200rpm 8MB cache IDE ATA133 (6Y160P0)
£ 70.44

7. Powercolor ATI Radeon 9800SE 128MB DDR 8x AGP + TV-out + DVI Retail
£ 128.08

This is first P4 sys i'm building. Are there any issues i should be looking out for? Are there any hardware compatibility issues with the stuff i have chosen?

TIA Miinkie

ps: anywhere in UK i can get any of the above items cheaper? The prices quoted are from microdirect.com

Looks good. Just make sure you plenty of cooling for one of those Minis. They got hot with so little airflow.

    Couple thoughts:
Dual CPUs are ideal for video editing. You may want to go for a dual Athlon system instead of the P4

Shuttle's SFF PCs are excellent, but their desktop boards are only so-so at best. (Just a heads up in case you might be considering one as an alternative to the XPC)

The main problem that they have as far as cooling goes is a lack of intake area, as far as I can tell. The fan they have should be more than sufficient for that little case, but there just isn't any way for the air to get in. If you added a couple of blowholes to it, cooling would be the least of your worries.

Unless you plan on modding that 9800SE into a 9800 I recommend getting either a 9600XT or 9800 Pro (according to budget). I'm also not a fan of GeiL ram. If you can get some Buffalo ram it would be a much better buy, but I'm not sure of the availability in the UK

The 875 based shuttle has big mesh side inserts that are capable of flowing more air than that fan is capable of requiring so that isn't much of a factor any longer.

Oh, I just noticed... you'll want 2 sticks of ram.

I was commenting on what you have in your wishlist. See the SE at the end of it? That's not a real Radeon 9800. It's a crippled one and you definetly shouldn't buy it, unless you can confirm that it will be able to be modded into a Radeon 9800 Pro. So my suggestion is to buy a Radeon 9800 Pro or a Radeon 9600 XT.

    Here's the 9600 XT : http://buy.ati.com/shopati/product.asp?category=AP&part%5Fno=100%2D437100+US&find%5Fcategory=AP&find%5Fdescription=Products&find%5Fpart%5Fdesc=&country=USA

You can check my specs in my sig. Full Load max temp is 46C (at stock.) I've OCed it to 10*200 where it maxed at 49C. I haven't heard of anyone who is running an XPC at stock who found the cooling inadequate.

I love my shuttle! Just make sure if you're buying one now, that it comes with the 250w SilentX PSU, I've been told it is yielding lower temps by ~3C. Also, I haven't heard of any problems (power-related) with the new PSU and the AIWs.
