anyhow, I suppose you have to flip this thing over manually, or are there two lasers?
Love it!
Much anger I sense in you.... Both of you.
Dual-layer recorders are coming very soon, some of the current generation of 8x recorders may even be upgradeable to dual-layer recorders via a firmware update. The recorder mentioned above is NOT a dual-side recorder, it is a dual-layer recorder. I have heard absolutely no mention of anyone producing a dual-side recorder--nor do I imagine we ever will. Too much of a niche market for such a thing, in my opinion.
Besides, what's "angry" about what Thrax said? I find it funny. Some of those things I actually like and still find funny. Sanyo, Mozilla, DIVX, WM9.
Besides, judging by your AV, it appears you're the one that's angry. Sheesh. Chill out. Take it to KBJ, I'm sure you and prime and Dexter can all make a go at taking shots at me over there.
I don't know, just sounded like an awful lot of hate to me. And hate is usually equated with fear, anger, etc.
Who, me? No, no, I'm all about the love.
Except when I see something actively working against the love. Then I've gotta speak my piece--which occasionally comes out as a
Looking forward to the day when :sweflag: is = to :ukflag: is = to :canflag: is = to :usflag:

Oh to hope, to dream....
(Went to a fight and a hockey game broke out...)
All in the spirit of stimulating thought, I assure you.
here is the deal:
dual layer dvd or DVD9 are compatible with normal DVD ROMs
DVD9 are not double SIDED
DVD9 offer 8.5 GB of space per disk
I not sure by updating the firmware on your DVD Burner you would be able to burn a DVD9; new DVD burner might be need. :banghead:
DVD9 IS NOT DUAL SIDED!
check the pic for the guts of this beast:
It is widely suspected in the optical drive firmware flashing community that certain Pioneer DVD recorders will be upgradable to Dual-Layer burners once Pioneer "officially" supports the technology and firmwares become available to hack. There may be other manufacturers as well, but Pioneer is the one which I am primarily aware of.
If this sounds too unlikely, just be aware that there are any number of DVD+R drives out there which can easily have their firmware flashed to turn them into dual format DVD+/-R drives, so it isn't that outlandish. All a matter of what hardware they were originally built with and whether the manufacturer decides to turn features off in firmware in order to differentiate their product lines as opposed to actually making different hardware--all based on cost analyses, of course.
e.g. /\ vs. |
The DVD standard allows for 1S1L, 1S2L, 2S1L (Spaceballs?), and 2S2L discs.
2S2L might be pushing it since the two layers on one side would have to be placed much closer together and it would be difficult to burn one layer without trashing the other layer.
Given the trash-grade and fickle CD-Rs that permeate the market now, why bother with DVD+/-R anyway?
This drive however doing 8.4 to a single side dvd is killer. Must sell organs and by one...
Gobbles
I would imagine yes. Since most movie dvds are double layer, no?
Now I will consider buying one.
I didn't want a single layer recorder, when dual layer was right around the corner.
My Plextor CDRW is still burning without a hitch though, and it will probably keep on burning.
And by all means, there's nothing better than a hot political debate! ...just not here. Take it to keyboardjockey.
