Im building parents a new comp, and I just want you guys to look it all over.
Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model WD400BB, OEM Drive only

Buffalo Technology 184 Pin 256MB PC-2700 - OEM
Im not sure If I should get 256 or 512. Probably just 256. But then again, what ram should I get if I want to run 2-128 sticks?

BIOSTAR nForce2 IGP Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU, Model "M7NCG 400"
This has onboard audio, lan and video. This comp will be used for internet, email, word processing and a dvd every now and then.

AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2500+, 266 FSB, 512K Cache - OEM
I'll be taking this (Obviously  ). Ill give them my normal 2600+.

And I need suggestions for an inexpensive case. There will be no overclocking on the bad boy (:p). I want it to come with a reliabe psu.

HD fine, for RAM I would do THIS:

MoBo, I do not know about, have had some good luck and some bad luck with Biostar. You say OCing is not an issue, so go for it, or an MSI KM2M works for parents who are not heavy into graphics.

The 2500+ is decent, have one box with one in, but will be moving to a P4\3.06 GHz Northwood instead. Actually, the board I have thta on is an MSI KT4VL and it is a nice stable board also.

Personally, I've come to dislike the noise WDs make. At first, it wasn't that bad because I hadn't ever heard a 7200 RPM drive before and I figured it was a normal noise level.

I now own 2 Hitachi 7200RPM drives, together run MUCH quieter than the WD. I'm actually looking to replace the WD when I get money. It's the loudest part of my computer. :banghead:

I've also heard Maxtor 7200 RPM drives, they're quiet also.

The Maxtors are quieter, at least with the fluid bearing versions.

My Maxtor is far louder than my 160Gig WD but inside the case I can't hear either one running. I can't hear my pc running unless everything in my apartment is powered off and then I just hear my Exos running.
As for a case here's a case with a 350W Atlas PSU included for $40.
I don't know how good the atlas PSU is though.

Fans are louder than the HDs so it doesnt bother me. I have 2 WD and both are pretty quiet.

Dont know how well the onboard vid will take to the DVDs. Other than that its fine.

    I would suggest a 350W Antec PSU.
