Hello,
I have a 2000+ athlon sitting at my desk and i am going to give it to my friend so that he can put it in his computer.
But the other friend that i got this cpu from, he pulled the cpu with the cpu socket off the mother board. so the cpu got stuck on the socket because he didnt know about the lever. I think he just ripped it out by pulling on the fan.

So now i have the processor and there is i say a 10 micro meter chip at the corner of the core.

My question if i put the cpu in the motherboard and the cpu does not work, will this affect the motherboard or any other components in any way as in fry or burn the components?

Thanks

It's not likely to hurt anything.

I've seen cores with small (read that less that 1/32nds of an inch) chips on the corners (yes, more than one, all four in one case) that worked just fine so you might well be lucky.

    I'm gonna bet it works.

Only I problem I could see is that there would be a slight chance if increased temp.

How do you see a 10 micron flaw?

I'm willing to bet it works also. If it doesn't it's no big deal and won't hurt anything. The only thing the chip in the core will likely do is create a "hotspot" in that area as it won't be making contact with the HSF. So good cooling will be important to the life of that CPU a little more so than an undamaged one.
