File sharing makes no difference to record sales

edited March 2004 in Science & Tech
Research appears to back up what teenagers have been saying for years, file sharing is not stuffing the music industry.

[blockquote]A study conducted jointly by researchers from Harvard Business School and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, has found that in 2002 music sales were unaffected by the increase in file sharing, and the industry may have even benefited from it.

There are tons of bands I never would have even hear of, let alone listened to, had it not been for file sharing.

I never buy a CD unless I know I like what's on it. I don't have the money to guess.

This only furthers my hatred of the RIAA.

Let's put it this way. I've bought more CD's since P2P has been around than ever before. That speaks for itself.

CD sales is not where artists make their money anyway. Its the concerts were the make their OWN money. Some dont give a rats ass about CD sales except that it boosts fans numbers. Some bands put their songs up for download on their sights. Some put their songs on P2P for fans to download. **** the RIAA.
