Mobile 2600s...

I'm pissed... I have no money left for computer parts... :aol::aol:

BUT, I just ordered 3 refurbished 2600-Ms from Newegg (2 to replace the 2500s in the dually, 1 for the NF7-S). These things had better be good... :D:D

My 2600m rocks, Geeky! Presently at 2556 MHz and I just upgraded the psu this morning so I will see how much higher I can go with it now that it has a decent psu for that rig. The POS turbo link psu it had was seriously robbing the rig of power on both the 12v and 5v rails, with the 12v rail down to 11.3v but now all rails are rock solid. I'm pretty sure the low rails have been holding that rig back some on speed.

The 2600m in the NF7-S will be getting overclocked, for sure. I have yet to make up my mind about the other two. At 2.13GHz, they're still almost as fast as the 2500s can run stably in SMP, so I may just run them at stock and take advantage of the massively lower heat output.

You do know that you will have to pinmod the multi on the 2600m for the correct multi on your dually board, as well as having to cut 1 bridge on the L5 bridges, Geeky?

Pinmodding isn't a problem; I've got the 2500s in Upgradeware XP-TMC adapters. I thought they needed a bridge connected, not cut, though. Which bridge needs to be cut/connected?

The mobiles have the last L5 connected, unlike the desktop XP's but the third one will need to be cut or blown as it's still intact (probably for mobile designation in laptop boards). The desktop L5 configuration is like this- l : : : and an MP is like this- l : : l and the mobile L5 configuration is like this- l : l l, so the third one is the one to cut. A guy over at overclockers forums was the one to find this out back in October or November when he successfully modded 2 2400m's for his K7D Master.

I have modded 1 of my 2400m procs so far for smp operation (also modded the multi too)but haven't yet tried it in my K7D because I plan to mod my other 2400m and drop them both into the MSI board, maybe this time in from work. I carefully scraped that fake pcb coating off the top of the L5 bridge and then burned it with the 5v rail on an old AT psu.

I wouldnt mind another just so I dont have to run 1.95 vcore thru the 2400M I have now and also run at 50+C just to do it.

I dunno. But I've gotta make my spending money SOMEHOW. And selling absurdly overpriced CPUs seems to work for Intel, so you know... :D

OTOH, zero mods to CPU, I have a 2.8 P4 at 3.2 GHz normal base, but the Game Accellerator in the IC7-Max3 BIOS is AUTOMATICALLY doing Gromacs at 3.4+ GHz rates. Plop in, OC carefully. ZERO adapters, mods, burning\melting\cutting of bridges. STOCK NORTHWOODS. The P4 is getting frame times that are on average about HALF (try 52% of) what the Barton 2500+ is getting for same WU. And the Barton is unmodded, running on an older MSI board, same RAM as P4, at 2 GHz (2010 MHz). Good CPU, good board.

Best of luck with the Barton mobiles, monocular vison means no bridge severing for me.... So, I go the other way, on a limited budget also. Just pick careful SETS of things that do exactly what I need them to do....

John D.-- who also says: Anyone want a Barton 2500+ with an MSI KT4VL motherboard for something, will deal (cash, PayPal ok.). PM me. Ask Leonardo about my trading with him if you want.... I trade so little, I can't remember if my Heatware is jdii1215 or Ageek.... ;(

But, of course, that's not a SMP system, either. Hyperthreading doesn't count- it's a pathetic excuse for a SMP emulator.

Got sick of a bulky sig? What? :) I was thinking I should make my sig longer. You know, like 6 or 7 more images. 3 or 4 more paragraphs of "Deep Thoughts." ;D
