infiltrating woes

mk so heres the deal, im playing with partition magic and its in the dos thing transerfer ing gigs to other partitions, well im sittin there watching it, then the screen goes black, i didnt think much of it and restarted the comp. im playing around playing some serious sam and stuff like that and bam the screen goes black again, i can still hear the music then it cuts out and the system basicly goes dead while still running. im wondering if its not getting enuf power?

80 gig sata hdd
and a geforce 4 ti 4200

running off a 300 watt psu

i tried updating the video drivers but it just did it 5 minutes ago playing serious sam, i highly doubt its a heat issue but it may be, any ideas?

That was my first thought. The computer couldn't have overheated during dos-mode partitioning.

300W might not be enough for that power guzzler of a processor you have there.

thats what i was thinking, its fine to listen to music and stuff on, i can leave it on the desktop for a week, im on it now but after 10-15 minutes of game play the screen goes black then the sound cuts out and i have to hit the power switch

ok, ok well it kept doing it till i let it sit at the black screen for like 10 minutes, and it automaticly rebooed back into windows, it came up with an error message talking about the video card drivers were probibly the cause of the system failure and ive tryed a few other detonators, the 40.03, and the 52.14 and the newest 54.74's? anyway does any 1 have a clue about what to do i am so lost, i reformatted hoping it had somthing to do with the OS but that didnt do anything its seems with older drivers it blacks out even sooner :\:\:(:(

Ok, so no more cutting off correct? How many fans, optical drives, etc are you running? If you are using XP have you tried to date the system back to another day?

i got the cpu fan, the 2 in the 500 watt psu, a 80gig sata hard drive, i reformatted the drive and reinstalled XP with all the lastes updates and video card drivers, its fine when i play mp3s and stuff like that, but serious sam 2 and ut2k4: the screen goes black, like loss of signal and everything ( monitor led goes yellow/orange ) then the sound, usually music stopps, the fans and hdd are still going. i let it sit there one time cuz i was sick of playing with it, and it rebooted into winodws and said "system has recovered from a serious error" and another saying " the system had an unexpected shutdown probibly caused by your display drivers" which is new to me
