Does the GTXP encode surround sound signals to its coaxial S/PDIF output?

It doesn't encode surround signals at all, it relies on the software to do that then outputs as needed.

The only thing that encodes surround channels into Digital outputs is the Soundstorm, always has been, and for some stupid reason, always will be. Of course you can still use S/PDIF passthrough for DVDs and AC3 audio files which will have all the channels.
