changing home page

My hompage keeps changing to res://mshp.dll/index.html#22776.

Reading a previous response I have downloaded hijackthis and attached is the log file (in doc format)

It has discovered a lot of files, and I'm not sure which ones to fix. Can anyone help ?

Also, my IE 'hangs' quite a bit. Would this be fixed as well with hijackthis ?

You'll want to reboot, then try running HJT again. You might also want to run [url=http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
    ]CWShredder[/url]. I think that MSSEARCH.DLL is a CoolWebSearch baddie.

After everything looks good, rerun HJT and report your log file. Then run SpywareBlaster

Also ... would the IE 'haning' problem be due to this as well ?

Thanks for your help again !
  • edited April 2004
that should be IE 'hanging problem'
  • DexterDexter Vancouver, BC Canada
    edited April 2004
Very likely your IE hangs are caused by spyware and hijacks, especially if you had 2 or more different items competing for control. Try for a couple of days now that you have cleaned things up a bit. If you still get hangs, try re-installing IE.

Also, if you are running Windows XP, now that you have cleaned out some trash, make a new System Restore Point, in case you have to use your system restore to recover form a crash, you don't want the last restore point to come back, as it will have all that trash in it again.

Switch to Mozilla, or Mozilla FireFox while you're at it... No Pop Ups, less malicious spyware being taylored to your browser, *free*, and far more reliable on the whole.
