ECS K7VTA3 Motherboard heating problem (I think)

okay so I bought the K7NTA3 motherboard from ECS, it goes for like $43 or something like that on newegg.com. I only got it cuz I needed a cheap replacement mobo for my linux box. My linux box is running a 1.1 amd athlon. Well when I was playing around iwth the bios the other day I went into the PC Health section and it said my cpu was running at 106-108*C. I was like sh**! SO I unpluged it from the wall opened it up and the heatsink was nice and cool so I thought maybe it just wasnt properly touching the cpu. So I pulled the heatsink off and the cpu wasnt even hot. It was only about 1 minute since I turned it off. Now I know if it was running at 106*C, it couldn't have been fully cooled off in 1 minute. plus I've had this computer up and running before without any problems. Pretty much my question is did anyone else have this problem before? I need to look for a bios update but I dont have a floppy drive so it might be hard flashing it.

If your programs and apps are all running well, and you don't have unexplained sluggishness or shutdowns, you probably don't have a heat problem. Motherboard heat sensors are known to lie to their users on occasion. :)

You would be surprised at how quickly the CPU cools down. The HS on the other hand is very different.

For that particular chip those temps really are not that bad at all. I have a hard time beleiving the temps I get on my wife's machine with the same board so the sensors could easily be at fault also.

He said *C not farenheit .... *C = (*F - 31) / 1.8 or something like that. I bet the ECS engineers either got farenheit and celsius mixed up or the temp sensor is fubar. Try checking it with a windows based program and see what it says.
