Nope, in fact no one did explicitly mentioned Folding to me
...However, no one really even needed to, because seeing the little banners for it on this site, it looked interesting and I was checking out Stanford's page yesterday. Seems like a cool project
I'd be up for helping the cause and joining team 93, but just a couple questions first: What kind of a difference does internet connection speed make to this if any? Is leaving FAH on helpful when my comp's not connected to the internet? (like stores work, then sends it later once connected?)
Probably I could be helpful to this project for about a month b/c I'll be using my computer a lot, and have a T1 connection (college's ethernet). During the summer I'll probably be using it way way less though, and when I'm infrequently online, it'll be a wimpy 56k.
I'd love to help fold those proteins
Also, much thanks again for helping get rid of omegasearch. About a month back a really bad virus was on my computer and I ended up having to delete everything and reformat windows. ::Sigh:: , would've been great to have known about Short-media then.

Cool project? Understatement, understatement.
56k dialup connection? No problem. As you guessed, the Folding client stores your work results and sends them to Stanford University servers when you are connected to the Internet. Slow down with 56k. Yes and no - slower uploading production data and downloading fresh work assignments. At my office, I've got 7 computers all sending and receiving via dailup connections - their production is very, very good. I've got the modems set to automatically dial if the connection fails. Four of those computers share one dialup modem through a LAN; sending and receiving data has not been a problem.
Again, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. The only thing we enjoy as much as watching our Team advance is accepting new members.

As a matter of interest, Folding ONLY uses processing power you don't use. Anything you wish/need to do with your puter takes priority. I'm sure 99% of people here have their puters running 24/7. I can verify ours do here in Australia. All for a VERY good cause and in my "Unbiased" opinion, the BEST team on the net, lol. That is Team #93.

One trick with the console:
The console client responds to CRTL-C and will do an orderly shutdown if you issue a CTRL-C and thne close the Command Prompt or Console widnow. The only advantage here, is if you close down in an orderly manner you will get a Completion Point or partial WU storage file generated in an orderly shutdown, and if the window is just abended you might not get an up-to-the hundredth of a percent .CP file generated.
For Linux cosole client folders: This also applies to Linux console clients. Same exact keystoke also, even in Linux. I have lost 10% of work and had it repeat that much when restarted, the other way.
