An FPS in 96kb? Surely not!

SpinnerSpinner Birmingham, UK

Here's something rather special. An FPS game in 96 kilobytes. Sounds crazy? Give it a go then! The guys over at theprodukkt have managed to code an FPS that includes cool graphics and sound, but further more it weighs in at the paltry size of 96 kilobytes. Be sure to check out the readme first by clicking 'Read More', just to be certain it will run on your machine.

Check it out

simply amazing thing from these guys, I was checking this out the other day.

I was really impressed with their "theproduckt" demo in 64k when I first saw it a while ago. Also be sure to check out "the Popular demo" on their page, it clocks in at 8mb because they used vocals and character animation but still an awesome demo and not an enormous filesize.

Doesn't work on this machine. Completes loading and my machine hard-resets, same as what happens if I run the Sandra Mem bench or try to run Memtest....

Yep. The other motherboard did this too. Nothing else is affected, all games and things are fine, very strange.

Another game i wont be able to run, yet at least i don't have to worry about harddrive space. I'll wait then.

Too lazy to boot the NF7-S, transfer it over the network, clear off my keyboard, clear off the floor in front of the keyboard so I can roll my chair over to it, clear off my chair so I can sit down without crunching stuff like SECC2 HSRMs, and find out. I'll do it after I clean up this disaster area.

Runs splendidly on my system also. Fun little game. Found it about 9 days ago.

Must either need a much faster processor or more than 512mb of RAM then. The opening runs better on my computer than on my roommate's, and the only major difference is our video cards. But the game runs at like 1-5 fps.

Did any of you actually read the system requirements? :skeptic:
kkrieger requires a relatively high-end machine to run properly. To be
    precise:

    - A 1.5GHz Pentium3/Athlon or faster.
    - 512MB of RAM (or more)
    - A Geforce4Ti (or higher) or ATI Radeon8500 (or higher) graphics card
supporting pixel shaders 1.3, preferably with 128MB or more of VRAM.
    - Some kind of sound hardware
    - DirectX 9.0b

Yep. We both read it (well I read it to Garg cuz he was busy laying on his bed and couldn't possibly get up). I have an XP @ 1.54ghz and 512MB DDR with an 8500LE 128MB. That meets the reqs. I should prolly update the Catalysts cuz they're old but besides that, it shouldn't be running so choppy.

The 8500 is an understatement. I have the 8500LE which is just a lower clocked version and it looks NOTHING like the screenie above. That area is TOTALLY black except for the ground and doors. And it is SOOOOOO LAGY as well. All I can say is that it pwned me.

    *sniff*
So it won't run on my R8500/64MB @ 320/294? :bawling:

I guess I'll just have to run it on the 9700 Pro @ 360/330 then... ;)

I exceed all the req's (as shown in my sig that I don't think anyone has ever clicked on, but oh well), but it still runs bad. If I cared more, I'd OC my Radeon, but I just kinda don't. One day when I get a Barton like the rest of the kids on the block I'll give it another try. In the meantime, it's still a sweet concept.

Runs fine for me, but I forgot the change weapon key. Still, I completed it. As a demo of what can be done it's very good, UT it ain't.

    7. technical FAQ

In general, if you have any technical questions concerning .kkrieger, either refer to our
web site or contact us via email. However past experience shows that there are some rumours
and misunderstandings about our work that are very hard to correct, so we'll state the truth
here, in written form, for all the world to see :)

    - We do .not. have some kind of magical data compression machine that is able to squeeze
hundreds of megabytes of mesh/texture and sound data into 96k. We merely store the
individual steps employed by the artists to produce their textures and meshes, in a very
compact way. This allows us to get .much. higher data density than is achievable with
normal data compression techniques, at some expense in artistic freedom and loading times.

It's not data compression as much as it's smart programming.

I can watch the intro sequence just fine but when I try to play the game, it was really laggy that I can't move one step forward. It was so laggy that I had used taskman to kill the game and when I did that, it was using 300MB of RAM :eek2:.

    Time for an upgrade.

Nah it's programmed in assembly. It's not compression, just the original code is written as efficiently as possible.
