Readers Criticize Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2

Microsoft's upcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2 is pretty un-popular among Security Pipeline readers, but critics were almost evenly split whether SP2 makes security too tight, or not tight enough.
The upcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2 has very stringent security measures. According to pre-release versions now available, the software is set to, by default, automatically download and install patches without user intervention. A built-in firewall comes with the software, and it's switched on by default. And a new Windows Security Center allows novice users to increase security on their systems, but makes it difficult to reduce security settings. Some or all of this is likely to change by the time the software is released, but based on what we know now, is SP2 too secure?

Damned if they do. Damned if they don't. IMHO they should n00bify it and have an option for advance users.

I'm sure advanced users like most of us here will have no problem sifting through the defaults and cherry picking. From what I've read before, it would appear that SP2 for the most part merely defaults stringent security options that are already available in XP/SP1. The firewall is supposed to better than the original XP version - at least that much is 'new'.
