When do services start ?

Hi Guys

Sorry I have not been around latley..(business is good ) and all my machines have been running good. ( Knocks on wood )

Anyway, my kid keeps forgetting to start her client before she leaves for school and countless other times. Her client is lucky to run 12 hrs a day. I have been starting her machine as admin. and starting the client in the morning. But when she gets home she has full access as admin. and has to shut down and restart. If I set F@H up as a service , when will it start ? If the machine is sitting at the log in screen are services running ? Or does someone have to log in to start them? If they are running at the login screen then all I would have to do is push the power button , and when she gets home she, only has to log in. And she can't turn it off. ( which she does a lot )

Edit to add XP Pro sp1

Top 50 in a couple weeks !!!

Thanks

Scott

If the machine is sitting at the log in screen...then services are running, provided their startup type is set to 'automatic' and not 'manual'.

    Great!

Next question. What is the "preferred" service installer ?

    Thanks

    I use firedaemon... www.firedaemon.com

The lite version is free and you can install just one (I think) service with it.

//edit: Wow Seth, ya beat me to it!

It seems to be up and running at the log in screen. Thanks guys !!!

That machine was using the GUI version. I did not change it to console , is that going to be a problem ? Will the little cog show up in her task bar ? It did not show up in the admins task bar.

    EMIII see's it just fine.

Any know issues I should watch for ? I think I remember some folks saying they had trouble turning in and getting work when running as a service.

I didnt think it would work with the Firedaemon but I heard that awhile ago with a different version.
