I am thinking about getting that Case/Mobo/PSU combo from tigerdirect and a 2600+ from tigerdirect as well. They have rebates on all those products. The 2600+ is $66 after rebates which is quite a bit better than Newegg.

Could I get some OCing out of this heatsink? I know the motherboard isnt going to allow much so I dont think it will need a great HS.

With those rebates from tigerdirect and RAM and Vid card and maybe this HSF I can build my parents a new computer for under $380.

You can't expect much from very quiet coolers, even ones with 80mm fans. So I was surprised to see the FalconRock II score 0.63°C/W. That's as good as some much, much louder coolers, and if your case ventilation's OK, it's should be good enough to run any Socket A or Socket 370 CPU at stock speed.

I was interested to see how well this unusually effective heat sink worked with a more powerful fan on it. I gave it a 5.4 watt Sunon 80mm, which is about as loud as most people are likely to be able to tolerate, but not a real howler. Now, the FalconRock II scored a downright excellent 0.52°C/W. That's in serious overclocking territory, and it's what I'd expect to see from a run-of-the-mill all-copper heat sink with the same fan. This thing's more effective than it has any right to be.

Unless Dan's results are a bit high, I wouldn't use it on like a 3200 or something, but it ought to be fine on a 2600.

Alright then, I might stick a bit louder fan on it. The one thats on the P3 is louder than 25dBa I know. I could always switch the two since the P3 would need less cooling.

Marc, a friend of mine tried that hsf out and it didn't so well, but then it was in a sh!tty case also. He has since bought an SLK947-U and a new case also and his cooling is much much better. I think his machine was running around 120-125 F while folding with that thing on his proc. That was with a Barton 2500 at stock speed.

Well Marc ...if you have to buy another "louder" fan thus increasing your heatsink budget why don't you look into something copper with an already loud fan? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-110-005&depa=0 (thermal paste and loud fan included)
The only thing I've heard about speeze is that it is about equivalent to stock cooling (retail hsf)

Hmm well I have another idea. Whats on it now is an AX7 and some 30+ CFM fan. What I think I might do is use the AX7 on the 2600+ and the speeze on the P3 thats in the computer now.

Most places that I have found are over $30 for about any SLK IF they even have like the SLK-800 or something lower since they dont make a lot of them anymore. SVC has a SLK-700 for $30. I might as well buy used then. I got an SLK-947 and a tornado shipped for the same price.
