Not all will see Longhorn in 3D

The next version of Windows looks set to sport some fancy, three-dimensional graphics, but for those with an older video card, Longhorn might look more like plain old Windows 2000.
"This is the first time we've had a tiered user experience based on the hardware you are running," lead product manager Greg Sullivan said during an interview at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) here.

what? longhorn? i had long forgotten it... who needs another windows anyways... 2000/XP is just fine, why make it more difficult for everyone?

From where did you ascertain that Windows Longhorn would be more difficult. And in what realm of fact do you assert that we don't need a new version of Windows?

    Back atcha man

    The comment was ridiculous.

    "Who needs another Windows?"

I, for one, would like another version, and I know many other people here are eagerly awaiting Longhorn's release and the new features it will bring. Enhancements to the GUI, the file system, and general aesthetic improvements plus integrated 64bit technology is exciting.

Never has microsoft said it would be more difficult. And indeed if their past trend is true, Windows will only get easier and/or more convenient.

I'm  at your wording though ;D

    "What realm of fact"? :ninja:

well if u think about it there are differeny realms of possibility, in different dimensions. I one demension where water boils at 0* instead of 100 thier realm of fact is that it boils at 0 not at 100 so to them we are wrong

therefore realms of fact can exist and diverge from ours... either that or i really need to get some sleep soon :)

What will Longhorn do? Force everyone to upgrade and the OEM and system builders will rejoice. Chant it with me everyone.

But then you could say that "Water boils at 100 degrees" is not actually a fact, it's just what experimental data has shown is probable, in our universe, at this time.

    Philosophy debate! :rarr:

So then Longhorn in 3D eh?

Probably shouldn't really be an issue by the time it's released, at least I hope it won't be. By then hopefully the everday Joe FPS should have a GPU which can cut the mustard.

As for the OS itself, I can't wait. And believe me, in 2 years time, you'll all be getting pretty bored with XP and by then it will undoubtedly be showing its age.

Oh yea and... at all of you! ;)

Then Facts are subjective. the sky is blue because we perceive it to be blue. all perceptions could be erroneous therefore the realms of fact are infinite because perceptions are infinite.

    please everyone join in.

MediaMan your not being forced to upgrade you can still run it the way 2k/xp looks. a lot of people don't upgrade just becuase there is new os out look at all the poeple that use windows 95 and 98. Though i understand your point as most people will say "hey mine doesn't look that cool what gives"

...and my parents will still be on Windows 95 and dialup. (Broadband is "too expensive". Hmm, Dad drives late model Lexus cars.)

But what if Blue was entirely different color to each person. like to me your blue would be red to me, but my red would be green to you. but no one ever notices because this is how we were raised. We were raised to learn that specific color has that name. but in fact it may look entirely different to each person....

meh.. i have been thinking about that since i was like in elementry school tho.... i just have never expressed... its even harder to express in words

i hope i didnt confuse you guys... cause half the time i confuse myself.. ;D

In the "realm of fact" of low pressure, water does boil at 0.01ΒΊC.
