Holy thread revival is right! I just got home from work and saw this old thread at the top of the list with all the new replys. In the middle of everything I did manage to learn something as well as do a few things to change the outcome.
    1. I found the problem. It was simply a loose connector on my mobo. John, The onboard actually beat out my PCI card for benching the single Raptor. (Go figure!)
    2. I fixed the loose mobo headers with some model glue and they are no longer loose.
    3. I really wanted the 74 Gig version. But they are still way too expensive but curiosity got the best of me one day while at Fry's with some cash in my pocket. Nuff said there.
    4. The Raptor I had was not any louder than my WD "SE" drives and only a little more than the Maxtor and Seagte's I also have. (This part really did impress me!)
    5. Last week my Rig #3 died. So I returned the Raptor and got a new mobo, CPU and ram to replace the departed folding rig.
(amazing to see that one Raptor was worth only $2.00 less than a new mobo, 2500 Barton and a 256mb stick of ram!!!)

Tex ol' buddy, Where you been hiding? Thanks for your presence as well as the help of everyone else. We really need to hook up again real soon as it's been way too long!!!

Spinner, if you're looking for a high "cool" factor, get 15k SCSIs and be done with it. They're about 2x the price of the Raptors ($200 for 36GB), but they're a hell of a lot cooler, too. Everyone and their brother (well, almost anyhow) has at least 1 raptor. Very, very few people that use consumer-level apps have SCSI drives at all (like me :-/:D), and fewer still have 15k SCSI drives.

Yeah well, like I've said before, RAID 0 is a poor mans SCSI, and I, sadly, am a poor man. My brother also doesn't have a Raptor! :D
