I gather from your setup information that you can dual boot either XP or XP 64-bit release candidate. When you tried to install the Realtek drivers, were by any chance booted into WinXP 32-bit OS? That would explain the system rejecting the drivers. Your 64-bit Athlon doesn't care about the drivers, but your OS definitely does.

As I have no experience with 64-bit anything, my only comment now is that perhaps the drivers aren't really ready for action. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I'm using the MSI Neo board, and the best drivers I've found (well, the only ones that work) are here:

    ftp://152.104.125.40/cn/nic/rtl8169rtl8169sbrtl8110sb/amd64-8169(105).zip

from the realtek website. If the direct link doesn't work, go here:

    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?keyword=64

About half way down you'll see "RTL8169/RTL8169S(B)/RTL8110S(B)" and a link for AMD64 drivers.

    Hope all that helps.

edit: hmmm, why doesn't the forum parser pick up ftp links as links?

That driver is in the XP 64-bit install.

When you go to update the driver, choose the options that allow you to choose for yourself. When you get to the window w/all the developers in the left pane, scroll to find Realtek (BTW there are 2 Realtek entries).

with the MSI Neo FIS2R, use the one that says "Gigabit" in the driver selection.

Thats how I got mine working. no need ot download drivers.
