Unable to delete partition

edited May 2004 in Science & Tech
I am trying to reinstall my copy of XP Pro. After I boot from the CD and I'm at the partition screen I try to delete the existing partition and I get a message saying "Unable to delete this partition because you have setup files that are necessary for this installation". How do I get past this?

Thanks.

Do you need any extra drivers during the install (for instance, for a RAID or IDE Controller?). If so, it may be trying to use the cached drivers from the HD. If this applies, try using the "Hit F6 if you need..." method and load the drivers from a floppy.

Since you are trying to get rid of everything anyway, can you manually delete everything from the existing partition before you start the install?

Get a Windows 95 or 98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com, boot to the floppy, and delete the partition using FDISK. Here's a decent guide on using FDISK if you need it.
