ATI cheating with Anistropic Filtering?

There seems to be quite a fuss about the way ATI forces bilinear/trilinear filtering on their new range of Radeon x800 series of cards following an article posted over at Computerbase.de.

DO NOT go to Rage3d right now. Somehow, I got a spyware toolbar installed, and as far as I can tell, it was from their site. It's a bitch to get rid of, since it won't let you go to any pages that tell you how to get rid of it, and there's no way that I can see to uninstall it. I used remote desktop to get the latest version of spybot and adaware, and they seem to have removed it, but until I figure out how it installed itself when I have unsigned activex control installation disabled and signed control installation prompted, and I was never prompted, don't visit rage3d. They may have nothing to do with this, but it's the site I got it from, so until I figure out wtf is going on, I wouldn't visit that link.

Well, I just went back to the site and tried to get it again. I didn't. I'm gonna go cogitate on this one, because somehow, it installed itself:
    -without asking for my permission
-without being on any of the sites I had open at the time

I have no idea how the hell it did it. If anyone else gets it though, adaware and spybot will take care of it. Just have them downloaded and installed before you get it.

Ah well, it happens to the best of us in time (this applies to the topic and to Geeky1's disaster as well).

If it looks good, plays fast, and they aren't lying about it ... who cares?
