Back in black..

I finally got the last coat of paint and all on the case. I changed from the bright red to a black. I just took some pics after putting down a fresh coat of wax. Turned out pretty good I think. Has some reflection to it, no super glossy.

The cog idea didn't turn out to good so I had to leave it plain ol black. Now I need to get some parts for this bad boy.

Sweet! First case I modded was black too. The color is both the easiest and the hardest to work with - easy because, as you have found, it covers well and gets and even finish, hard because to get it real glossy and shiny is a TON of work plus it shows any imperfection very clearly.

Looks better than the one I did

Thanks guys. I really wanted a mirror finish, but I didn't have any rubbing compound to use on it before the wax. Now that the paint is over, I can get some parts in it and really pimp it out.

Sundrop? What kindof backwoods, redneck, mom-pop store drink is that? :nudge: Hey, if it goes down smooth with a Moon Pie, I'm sure I'd like it.

Oh, how rude of me. Nice case work there. Much better than the botched red job. No disrespect on the red paint job - that color is really difficult to get right.

Hey Leo, its from the South. None of us up here have ever had any until Clutch and Ego brought some up to the Lan.

It reminds me of Citrus Drop actually.

Very nice finish. What type of paint did you use? How did you apply it?

clutch, you and your sundrop... j/k.... :D

Um, any chance you could take a digital pic of it, print to transparency sheet and make a decal of that bottle by cutting out transparency??? Might make a nice case personalizer..... :D

hmm. I will keep that in mind John

dak: The paint I used was Dupli-Color Truck, Van, & Suv paint. You can find it at a auto parts store, I got mine at Advanced Auto. Here is the painting process I used

    - Sand the case down with 400 gritt until you get a very smooth finish
    - Wipe down with denatured alcohol
    - lay down primer and set for an hour
    - sand again this time with 600 gritt but do not sand to the metal, if you do, start back over again with the first step. Use light pressure when sanding, and keep the sandpaper wet
    - wipe again with alcohol
    - Put down first coat of paint and let it dry for 24 hours. The way you paint is up to you, but don't do it outside where a lot of dust can get in your paint
    - sand with 1,000 gritt very lightly and wipe with alcohol
    - apply a second or third layer of paint and let dry
    - sand again with 1,000 gritt very lightly

After that you can apply a clear coat which I didn't, I just used some car wax. You can use some rubbing compound to make a very nice finish as well.

    hope this helps.

Yes, it does thank you. What exactly did you apply the paint with? It's not like spray paint I'm assuming? Nor would you use a brush :). Thanks again I like how it looks.

It is spray paint. It's not regular spray paint though, it is automotive spray paint so it is really good quality.

Lacquer removing paint stripper, heavier in zylene+ some acetone things. Little goes a long way. Zylene will not hurt steel in small amounts that are rinsed off and not let sit.
