Tyan 2466 - AMD Dual Goodness

//TRADED// to SimGuy.

Great dual board. It's the one that has the USB issues but it shipped with the pci USB card, which is inlcluded also.

Ran like a champ w/two modded XP2400+'s. (Simple modification - you connect one bridge to make the chips identify as MP's) I've since cleaned off the bridges and I'm running the chips in other boxes.

Here's the deal, though... I don't really want money.

I'd like to trade the motherboard for a color Palm PDA... even a low end M505 would be fine. (oh look, compgeeks happens to have a refurb one for 99bux - hint hint)

//EDIT//

Wow, I felt like Missy Eliot when I typed that.

(cough)

Alrighty - I still want the Palm but the deal has been restructured. The board AND 1g of reg pc2100 for some comparable value combination of the following...

usb 2.0 pci card, color PDA (Palm OS - M505 would work), decent HSF combos for these suffering AXP's, an 1800+ or above amd proc, generic power supply 350w or above, pc case (nothing elaborate)

Lemme know.

SO what you saying is a dual motherboard for a $99 Palm?

If someone wants to go that route... then yes.

Maybe someone has one sitting around collecting dust.

...but I'm glad the lines I typed weren't that hard to read between.

    Look at it THIS way...

You do it and what is the worst case scenario?

I tend to doubt you would have any problems dumping it for 100.00 even 6mos from now.

You have any pictures of this motherboard & memory I could look at? :)

I've got a retail M505 with USB cradle sitting on my shelf upstairs that's looking for a new home...

I used it for 2 months before it sat on the shelf, never to be looked at again (replaced it with an IPaQ 3950).

    Thanks :)

Any insight you can give me into how this thing O/C's?

I assume I can't use modded Barton 2500's in this thing @ 133 MHz FSB and have to use XP-266's? What about Thorton's? Or am I religated to using T-Bred B's & under?

(Forgive my n00bish questions, but I've never built a dual-AMD rig before) :)

Not noobish - I'm not all that versed myself.

Best resource is to google it or ask Tex, I believe he had a similar setup.

I DO know that it isn't very overclockable... very slight BIOS adjustments for fsb and none for multipliers.

Even with the FSB mods, it didn't like to be pushed. Ran like a champ at defaults, though. Also, you're fighting a heat issue... dual proc - lots of heat.

Not sure about Bartons. Most peeps just mod 2400+ xp's and run dual 2ghz.

Indeed it is! It's going to cost an arm & leg to ship this stuff, but it's worth it for this mobo & ram! :)

SimGuy, you can run the mobile XP's in dual boards, but some boards (MSI K7D for sure) require you to cut 1 L3 bridge for proper SMP operation. I'm not sure about this board though. You can always pinmod the multiplier and vcore you want with the mobile XP's and I've heard that there is a program out there that lets you adjust the multi in windoze too, but I don't remember what the name of it is.

    Thanks for that mudd :)

I think I'll just pick up a used pair of XP2000 T-Bred's and run with that, but it's good to know I can toss in the mobiles if I ever see the need. :)

I take it that it's the same with Barton's then? I can pinmod the multiplier & vcore I want, drop the FSB to 133 and run those (even with the new locked Barton's)?
  • edited June 2004
AFAIK, with the new locked Bartons you can do some mods to them to make the board treat them as mobiles and can use that windows app to change multipliers, but not by pinmodding. The mobiles are really unlocked so pinmodding works fine. With older unlocked Tbreds and Bartons, you can connect the right-most L3 bridge to enable smp and then hard code the bridges or pinmod them to the multi you want to use.

    There are locked T-Breds?

BTW Vicodin, I tested all the HDD's and they all come back working 100% except the Conner CFS425A. I can hear the platters & heads scraping together, so it's no damned good.

Feel free to scratch it off the list (unless you still want it)? :)
