Usually, extra items in your IE context menu are added via the Regisrty.

If you know how to use Regedit, you can most likely fix this easily.

Ru Regedit, and navigate to the key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt

There you will probably see the offending item. Click on it's entry, and delete it.

If you have never run Regedit before, or this sounds complicated to you, let us know and one of us will talk you through it.

***DISCLAIMER*** Using Regedit without adequate knowledge can seriously foul up your computer. Proceed with caution.

First close Internet Explorer because we'll be making changes to it. To start regedit, go to Start>Run and type in regedit and hit OK.

Regedit is set up sort of like Windows Explorer. When you run it, you'll see a list of "folders" on the left and a main window on the right. There are 5 main folders. You want to open up HKEY_CURRENT_USER and look for the Software folder. Inside there is a Microsoft Folder, inside that a MenuExt folder. Expand that folder and you should see a bunch of other folders. Highlight the folder that should say something along the lines of >>> HARDCORE MOVIES <<< and delete. Close regedit and restart IE.

FYI all, I changed the topic title to make it easier for someone else with the same problem to find this in a search.

    Hi

I found this forum in a search for assistance because I have a My IE2 link on my context menu in IE and I've tried the steps above but have been unsuccessful. There are a few folders under the MenuExt folder that I'm not sure about when I go into regedit and I'm hoping for a little help.

    Here are the folders:

    &Google Search
    Backward &Links
    Cac&hed Snapshot of Page
    E&xport to Microsoft Excel
    Si&milar Pages
    Translate into English

I have no idea what I need to do with these or how to get rid of that stupid My IE2 thing. Any help would be much appreciated.

From the menu I saw, did you get it with a right-click on web page, or by clicking a toolbar button (the icons or buttons with graphics on them below menu bar, each row is called a toolbar)??? IE as stock, will let you pull toolbar buttons by itself... Right-click the menu bar in blank place to right of menu listings (file, and other entries to right of that). Choose Customize (to tell your browser not to show a toolbar or TO show one, click to toggle on or off toolbar display), or right-click toolbar you want to change, on blank place on toolbar. Also, with some variant browsers and IE and some toolbars you install, you can right-click to right of last button on toolbar you want to customize, some variants will let you choose what buttons appear. Most widnows programs from microsoft and a lot of others will let you customize toolbars this way, so if you get to a submenu from a toolbar click, removing visual button or buttons gets rid of whole submenu or button action if you do this and then restart windows or close and reopen browser (if button reappears after closing and opening browser, do it again, close browser, restart windows).

BTW, if neither of these methods result in things staying the way you want them after a Windows restart, check for hijacks and adware and viruses, OK??? SOMETHING is puttign them back if they reappear without you telling Windows or browser to put them back.

Figured some folks with issues might find that this info helps some....

John_D, it's when right clicking on items in my favourites folder, it has nothing to do with the toolbars that I can see... but I'll give it a look. No... this is the context menu for right clicking on shortcuts in the favourites menu.

sheriffdude, I checked out that link but I don't want to register to download something. I'll see if I can find it somewhere else and give it a try.

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

That has been inserted into the main menus. That may just be an "Extra Context Menu" item removable with Hijack This. Please click the Security Downloads link in my signature, download Hijack This, place it in it's own directory, run it, scan, and save a log, post the log here.

Ok, just wanted to make sure.... Thanks.

If you were good with regedit, I would search for a registry entry with the text you want to get rid of out of the context menu in it, as a value subentry. If it is not there, HJT is best bet. DLLs or EXEs are used to get this if registry is not used to feed the text itself.

Sherrifdude, I downloaded and tested out that software...let me tell you what I thought of it:

app looks like a combination of Ad Aware, Spybot, LSP Fix and Hijack This. Thorough, but slow. I don't think it can do much that you can't dop with those other apps and a little bit of knowledge though. Good for newbies.

Trial period: 5 days. Yep, a whole whopping 5 days.

Oh, of the 12 items it identified as Spyware on my system, 9 of them were cookies from today's browsing, including such notable spyware sites as Fedex.com, and Short-Media.com :)

There were 3 stray reg keys it found from old spyware crap that has been disabled by Ad Aware and Spybot. A Reg cleaner app may have found those as well.

So, it is a good app, but such a short trial period, compared to many other apps, and compared to some good freeware, I would not recommend it. There are free tools which can do the exact same thing, why pay $29 for it? :)

    Lync,

nope, doesn't look like it is your log anywhere. Try what John_D suggested, do a text search for "myie" in Regedit, look for keys that match it, and see if any of those are in a menu structure.

If that doesn't workm it may be buried in a DLL. Here's a link to a Free App called TooBarCop which is very handy, it may be able to find it for you:

    http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/toolbarcop.htm

Give those a try let us know.
