Computer is a P4 3.2 Ghz, 1 Gig ram. Abit AI7 Mobo which we purchased along with 2 others this week.

The other 2 work ok. Both network and go online.
Sally has tried everything she knows and then some to try and fix the 3rd computer.

Fresh installs, repairs, you name it, she has had a go.

Q. Is it possible it being a faulty mobo, or are there settings somewhere that may have been missed?

The puters are all hooked up to an ethernet adsl modem with 4 ports.
All computers can see each other, just cand browse online with one.

Any ideas? Any help /suggestions will be welcomed with open arms.

Jon A.

Check to make sure the TCP/IP settings are correct, especially the DNS IPs.

I'm guessing you are connecting with a router. Might want to see the router logs to check for any problems. Also drivers, make sure you have the latest motherboard drivers for the nic. Is it possible to try a different nic besides the onboard?

Also try a different port into the router (use one of the ones that you confirmed to be working with the other computers)

Thanks for replying. HAD to get some sleep. Been working on this quite a while.

The 8 port switch we were using appears to be faulty all of a sudden. Did not realise it till we checked EM III and found 2 puters hooked into it failed to send WU's.

Plugged those puters into the 4 port router in the modem. Worked a treat.
We checked all the puters this way to ensure it was the switch which was the problem.

This is when we came across the problem with that i puter. It just would NOT play nice. Will not go online in any of the 4 ports in the router.

Put a spare Nic into it. Still refused to work. Can network with it, just refuses to go online.

It has XP Pro as an OS. We are hoping for a setting we may have missed, looking for the easy way out.
As it is now sunday here, i'm limited to only a couple of computer shops being open. I'll be getting another switch as soon as they open up.

This will put the others back on line as only 3 can go into the modem.

If all fails, i'll put the Asus mobo back into it and see if that works. Will mean another re-format etc. Once again, this happens just before i fly back to work tomorrow morning. The joys of owning computers, lol.

post a screenshot of your TCP/IP control panel

Hi Brian. Control panel? Is that the internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties screen?

If i don't reply immediately, i have to go a fair way to get the new switch. Limited time and not many shops open on a sunday here.

I think he means your router control panel. Open IE, type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar, hit enter, and see what happens. What brand of router do you have?

Just to Re-affirm, we (Sally more than me) have spent hours and hours, prior to starting this thread, to get the rotten thing to work. Tried forced settings, allowed it to get it's own, you name it we tried it.

Next Prime asks for a screen shot. Put a floppy disk in A:\ , Bring up the screen we thought was needed. Copy screen shot, take floppy out. As i prepare to post it, Sally pressed the IE shortcut for the millionth time and guess what...................It's ONLINE.

I just can't believe this. (Angry) :bawling: (stressed) (frustrated) ;D (overjoyed).

Hopefully, whatever it was that it did, it stays that way.

Thanks for the assistance. Just wish i knew how IT did it.

ps. Going to the shop to get my new switch. I will let you know how it is going as i may need to ask more questions, should the worst happen.

Geeky, Sally apparently did the thing with the IP address and it did not work.
    All very strange.
