2 really annoying windows glitches

ok ... wtf ... this has never happened on any windows xp system i've used before....the stupid arrow just goes away at entirely random times! if i open/close it, and open a program (there's no way i can duplicate it), for no reason it's gone..until i remove an icon from the tray. pic of it is posted below. another thing .... at random times, after i lower a window, all my icons will the be the pic that windows uses when it doesn't recognize a file type ... then slowly, 2 or 3 at a time, fill them in properly? wth?! i've never, ever seen this and it's starting to bug me!

    I've had this kind of problem with the task bar (usually when i've been doing alot of stuff and the PC has been up a long time)

    To usually solve it i press the desktop quick launch twice and it seems to update the GUI

    Your icon cache might be corrupt. Try this out first. You might also try increasing the cache size if you've got a lot of icons.

    well, i can't find the reg key that points to and i dont' have the file i'm supposed to delete...
