I would recommend the Lexmark 3-in-1's There's a really thin style model now (x100 or something like that) but Lexmark offers 2 or 3 styles now and they are all reasonably priced. A buddy of mine has the ultra thing style one, I think it was like $100-$150 in that range and it's really nice. And I can personally vouch for the print quality of Lexmark machines, I own both a z11 and a z22, both terrific printers with great printing, some have told me that cartridges are "pricey" but they last a long time.

I used to own a Canon, the cartridges cost just as much and lasted maybe 2-3 months at most. I print fairly often (especially B/W for school papers, several multipage papers and online printouts from courses each week) and I replace my B/W cartridge maybe once every 5-6months.

As for where this thread belongs, I would doubt "Storage and Controllers" but after checking the threads list there really isnt anywhere this is applicable. Possibly Digital Media or just Hardware Discussion is my guess, we'll have to let a mod make the call as to where it belongs.

Some links: this is the one my buddy has
(x1150) very reasonably priced and a nice little unit

I would guess that general hardware is where this one will end up landing. Its really not disks or controller related.

And.... I have the HP psc 2210. Color copier/scanner/fax/printer and it has a memory card reader built in also.

Check eBay if your on a budget also. Sometimes the deals even on brand new printers is amazing. Thats where I nabbed mine. I love it. It was around $110 I think.

I also bought a used laserjet 4 on ebay for 25 bucks the next day to crank out the black and white pages and keep the cost per page to use the HP down. The cost of the ink is a major consideration if you expect to use it often. They practicaly give away many ink jet printers anymore and then you find it costs you almost the purchase price just for a frigging ink cartridge. And you know finally WHY it was so cheap. It really is a scam any more that HP can sell you a whole inkjet printer for $50 and wants 39 bucks for a ink cartridge. You might as well throw the printer away every time and get a new one. (grin)

Here is one for well under $100 with an hour left.

I also have a HP 2210 All In One. It has worked flawlessly for me for about a year. It is very reasonably priced too. I'd give it my recommendation.

Don't rule out a laser 3-in-1. If you don't need the color, the laser toner cartridges' long life will pay for the machine over and over again. If you print a lot (or if you get fax spams), those bargain inkjet printers' expensive ink cartridge replacements can make the cheap printer not a bargain at all over the long term. But then, that's me. I use laser printers and keep them for years. Had my last one for 8 years.

I'm waiting for color laser to become affordable.

Leo you really need BOTH. I have two shared printers on the network. A laser named Black & White

and a color inkjet named COLOR.

Not to hard even for kids to figure out where to print
