ghetto cooling my NB

jeez, three cooling threads in one day ... sry guys lol. but. my bro has a fan that would be perfect for cooling my nb. he got it from radioshack for something or other and doesn't use it. so i looked at the passive heatsink on the nb chip for a way to mount it and what do i see? the center fin has hooks! now, could i double loop a rubber band and snag it on those? or will the heat weaken the bands? i've checked already and they won't interfere with the blades. should i maybe use twistie ties or something else? i feel that the NB is sending too much heat the way of my cpu, and this could help dissipate it.

the center fin looks like this the whole length of the fin

bumpage ... anybody? will the heat cause the rubber bands to snap some time?

Heat will both weaken the bands, and the rubber will naturally dry, crack, and fail.

Rubber bands won't work. Not enough tension to hold the heatsink on.

I don't think twist ties will reliably fasten any heatsink to a northbridge either.
    Try thermal adhesive.

I vote with csimon. arctic silver adhesive and a big a*s old pentium heatsink

Not to be a fire blanket, but does your NB get warm/hot? Those small fans tend to be kinda whiny.

yeh it gets quite hot ... to the point where it doesn't hurt, but would be rather uncomfortable to hold there for any amount of time

oh you mean affix the fan to the heatsink? Well I've used twist ties before ...or zip ties ...just cut off the excess! ;D
