Problem with 3DMark03 Tests

I can't get the sound tests to work in 3DMark03 on my System 1. System 2 runs all tests, and so also the Barton XP2500+ system I've got at home now. What gives? I've got the same release (340) on all computers, and similar speaker setups. It's as though I've got a weird setting somewhere in the sound control panel or something - beats me. The IC7 uses the AC97 sound chip, which is essentially the same as on the NF7 2.0 motherboards for System 2 and the 2500 system. Any suggestions? 3DMark03 is not all that important for me, except for testing new cards and systems. But the incomplete testing is bugging me, challenging me to find the problem. When I first built this system, 3dMark03 ran just fine with the same speaker setup. The speaker setup is a Cambridge soundworks - subwoofer with two satellite speakers connected through the subwoofer/power amp. I've tried configuring in two speaker stereo, four speaker, and 5.1. 3DMark03 opens each time with sound tests not selected. Is there a way to manually force on the sound tests; or is all auto-configure when I select "Run 3DMark"?

    Leo,

OMG...people have left you without feedback/solutions. tsk tsk.

First. Your actual speakers have nothing to do with your problem. If the tests worked before using the same exact motherboard/sound chip then they should work again.

Have you upgraded the sound driver recently? The new version may be "buggy" for 3DMark. In any case uninstall the audio driver and reinstall it if you already haven't. If I remember correctly the AC97 chip won't support all of the tests either. Usually 2 of the 3. (60 voices is typically unsupported.)

That's my only guess based on what you've said.

3dmark03 doesn't support the ac97. has something to do with full hardware decoding, i cant remember exactly

Thanks for the replies. I downloaded the newest Abit sound drivers for the board (why didn't I do that before?) and immediately had big improvement. All tests play now except for the 60 sound test. So, you're right about AC97 comment.

OMG MM knew something and it worked. :)

    Leo,

Sometimes the solution is right under your nose. I don't know how many times I didn't think of the obvious when it came to a problem.

I can't count the number of times, after a computer building/modifying session, that I push the power button and nothing happens, or the computer boots without a screen. DOH! forgot the power cord or monitor cable ;D
