what version of windows? With XP for example you just boot from the CD and it prompts you where to install to and you delte the old partiton and make a new one and format all from the GUI setup for XP.
With 98 or ME you boot from a floppy that has format on it and format the hard disk and then run the setup program from the 98 cd.
It's going to come to a point in which it asks you which partition to install to. Select the c: drive and hit "d" to delete it. Just read the screen prompts. It has it written on the screen what the exact options are. Then you hit "c" to create a partiton in the available disk space after you delete the old one.
i just reinstalled it and BUT when it came to the partiton bit i tried to delete the old one but it said it need some files to install? so i had to install over it? how i menna delete my old stuff when it wont let me

Are you booting the install CD or trying to install while already in Windows? If you're trying to install while already in Windows you can't delete the partition since it's in use.
