Log file for Perusal

First of all, I stumbled on this forum by a random search, and holy smokes, I nearly bowed down in front of my PC in gratitude that there is the chance someone can help me rid my machine of the insidious attack I've recently endured!!!!

I'm at wits end.

All steps required previous to posting a log file have been met, many times, but this stuff keeps coming back. Here I am on my knees asking for help!

As you can see, I'm in serious trouble. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

All steps required previous to posting a log file have been met . . . .

Well, close maybe. First, put HJT in its own folder (move from desktop). HJT makes backup files when items are removed, and the backups can be lost on the desktop.

Next, run CWShredder, both in normal mode and safe mode. Also run AdAware and Spybot if you have not done so. Make sure all three have most recent updates. You can find CWShredder here => http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

If CWShredder fixes any problems, post what specific problems were fixed. Also post a new HJT log. I (or someone else) will help tomorrow (Sunday).

Anyone else feel free to jump in here and assist.

Thank you so much. I had run Spyware and Adware and CWshredder, but have done so again. The pop-ups have greatly dimished, but there are all these strange processes running that I can't get rid of.

Again, thanks a lot for the help.

Then, boot into safe mode and delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\INTERN~2 (STARTS WITH INTERN, but it's not Internet Explorer)
    C:\Program Files\ClockS--- something or other
    C:\Program Files\Autoupdater

Also, I would update virus definitions to the very latest and run a full system scan. That WMPLAYER.EXE thing is definitely wrong, but I think it may be a virus or a trojan instead of spyware.

Start with all that, then repost a log :)

    Thanks!

I've done the above, although these folders:
C:\Program Files\INTERN~2 (STARTS WITH INTERN, but it's not Internet Explorer)
    C:\Program Files\ClockS--- something or other
    C:\Program Files\Autoupdater
    didn't exist.

I'm especially concerned about the ones in Red.

Again, I think it's amazing that there are people out there willing to help. I see light at the end of the tunnel!

CTFMON.EXE is a legitimate Windows program. The other two, obviously, are not. Kill those through Task Manager and run a trojan scanner.
  • edited June 2004
No trojans found, fortunately. Well, I'm not getting any more popups..but those two programs won't stay dead after killing them through the task manager.

Oh well. Things seem to be behaving much better now.

Thanks! Is there anything else in this log file that should be killed?

We've gotta get rid of those - they are definitely bad, and will most certainly create a whole set of new problems after a reboot or two. Chances are, they are reloaders for some piece of crapware.

Try this. Make sure "show hidden and system files" is selected in your view options. Browse to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ and sort the view by date. Chances are, there will be a couple of weird looking, randomly named files from the last couple of days in there. You can sort of see a pattern in the SYSTEM32 folder - like, 90% of the files will be dated from the day the computer was installed, and then a few files will be from another day, etc.. Very few things ever get "installed" into the system32 folder - it's for the operating system. So if there's newer things in there, chances are they are crap. Post some of the names of the files in here before you delete them, just to have a few experts look at them.

Indeed, there are some suspicious things in there, as follows:

    swdmcapk.exe
    inetmgr.ini
    ZPORT4AS.dll

A few I can't find, but show up in my Processes are Kksr40S.exe, OalrfXw2.exe.

I can't find them in searches in any folder, and when I try to kill them, they just come back seconds later...

Try that fix used to kill the res:// DLL problem. Shut down and disable the Network Security Service through services.msc. Reboot into safe mode, run HiJackThis, and kill those services. Let's see if that helps.

These b@stards are getting trickier and trickier, but we're going to keep fighting them on every front.

Question...and pardon my ignorance...how do I do this: disable the Network Security Service through services.msc...

I have tried to kill those services, but nothing.

Adware, Spyware, and CWShredder have all been run.

But, the problems are back (homepage re-direct, popups, and useless things in my processes list. It's almost as if it randomly generates process names to keep me from killing them. Examples: jgbwxMF.exe (which is nowhere to be found on the computer), RgifFm.exe, then when those are killed, Kksr40S and Uvmscns3.exe pop up.

These guys need to be thrown in JAIL!!!!!!!!

    It's so frustrating....

Thank you all for the continuing assistance. It is a miracle to find people out here waiting to help rid folks of this scourge!!!!

Go to START -> RUN and enter: services.msc

That will bring up the services control panel. Find the Network Security Service and disable it. I recommend you physically disconnect your computer from the internet while you do this, unless you have a hardware firewall.

Then follow the advice given, deleting the suspicious files.

After rebooting, re-enable the Network Security Service.

Thanks, sorry for the ignorance. There was no Network Securities Service using that method.

I've deleted swdmcapk.exe, and inetmgr.ini, but not ZPORT4AS.dll, as I was unsure it was safe to delete it.

    Hey,
I used Trojan hunter and found 9 TROJANS!!! I don't know how they were missed before, but getting rid of them seems to have helped the problem. The log looks (I think) much better now.

Thanks for all the help guys.

    There's still this:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [4##CB793KB#DQ8] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Yjjq5g.exe

We have to find out what this is.... I've never seen it before. I know it's bad.

Man, these guys are good! I mean Evil!

When I go and look in the system32 directory, there are a bunch of those files...but, they looked like they've been quarantined by TrojanHunter...(they have a trojanhunter crossed out icon and have .tcf added to their extention. I'm going to delete them and see how it goes.
