I guess you'd have to play it to find out. :)
President and CEO Tom Bean has assembled a team of veterans from the education sector of the industry. Their collective resume includes such elementary school classics as Carmen Sandiego, Reader Rabbit, and Oregon Trail.
My daughter and I played various versions of all of those games. We enjoyed them very much.
• edited June 2004
Well there's "Edutainment" games, and there's REAL games. I liked Oregon Trail back in the day too, but for some reason I don't play it as much as I do UT2K4 anymore...

Christian games? why not? Jewish, Muslim, Hindi games? Why not? It doesn't matter. If they sell there must be a market, if they don't they'll go bust and we'll move on.
Gays? (sorry prime but I have to say) I don't want them near my kids either. I don't want my kids to think it may be normal. It's normal for an addict to inject drugs, don't make it right.

No one said anything about an addict shooting up heroine being right. I was just using it to illustrate a point that a human is a human whether they are gay or straight. Gays don't do drugs more often than straight people. There is no evidence linking the two. When I have kids I don't want them around anyone whose engaging in intimate situations whether they are straight or gay I don't care.

Why don't you want them around your kids? Do you think homosexual couples are anymore vulgar than heterosexual couples or are you just a homophobe?

ho·mo·pho·bi·a ( P ) Pronunciation Key (hm-fb-)
n.
Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men.

Do you see that word contempt? You are saying that because of a personal sexual choice, you do not trust their judgement and you don't think they would be a good role model for your children as a person? I"m guessing that the point youre trying to make is you don't want your kids seeing them "being gay" and for them to follow suit? It's not like gay people have anymore hormones than a heterosexual. They do not have a constant appetite for the same sex and I'm not buying this whole I don't want my kids around gay people idea.

There are boisterous, ****-faced and obnoxious gay people. They are black, white, asian, indian...

And then there is the rest of the world, leading quiet, private lives of their own. Be they gay or straight, there are billions left where no amount of guessing can ascertain their sexuality.

Kids don't "Learn" to be gay. Homosexuality isn't some damn pathogen that will infect little kids with the homo gene. People are private, and most gays are so publicly private that you'd be hard pressed to ever find one that would impede on anyone's sheltered world of gay-fright.

Look. Your kid's either going to grow up liking men, or grow up liking women. No amount of exposure to homosexuality, boisterous or reserved, is going to have an influence on that. If you subscribe to the environmental sexuality influence, unless a gay couple is living in your house, your kid is going to see more heterosexuality in his "Impressionable years" than he probably will ever see homosexuality.

Alright?

People need to stop acting like it's a disease. That kids can "Turn gay" by being around a gay.

To say more that "I don't want my kids being around gays!" is a ridiculous notion, considering you're surrounded by them every day and you're none the wiser. How can you admonish that which 9 times out of 10 you're not even aware of?

It makes no sense.

I deplore all displays of public vulgarity.. But I'll be damned if I'm going to be so ignorant and bigoted as to say that I hate gay vulgarity more than straight vulgarity.

People who want to be vulgar and annoying are just that. Vulgar and annoying. Being gay means nothing more to that concept.

Yes.I don't really want public displays of any, but unnatural = more vulgar to me.

I don't think it's ignorant or bigoted, just a differant view. I was approched twice as a child by 'gays' never by a hetro woman. As a father of five that's how I feel.

Alright. This is my single question:

How is it unnatural? Homosexuality is historically as old as heterosexuality.

I was browsing the news and saw that this thread was 3 pages and was intrigued that there was so much interest in a Christian game studio. It never dawned on me (maybe because I'm so tired today) that the 3 pages would possibly be a debate about homosexuality... at any rate, I had actual interest in the content of this thread as described in the OP.

During the MBA program I consulted for a firm (a MoCap studio called iSeeSoft) that engages in a non-violent game philosopy. They made a game called World Dance. It was really boring, but definitely educational and non-violent. I thought to myself that iSeeSoft might benefit from a partnership with the Christian game studio this thread referred to.

And please, guys, why does every thread involving religion have to degenerate into a debate? Everybody's got their opinion on the topic, and in the vast majority of the cases, people just get pissed off by everyone voicing their opinions. People will hardly ever change their opinions on the topic, so what's the point in dragging it on for pages? That being said, I'm NOT going to voice my opinion on the topic. I will say that I am of the opinion that this debate should end since it will literally never get resolved in our lifetimes...

Thrax, I have nothing against gays, but, Male and Female is the design. I know it doesn't always work out like that, accidents of nature, gene variation, whatever you want to call it. I feel 'gayness' is almost promoted these days as being perfectly natural, if it is then it's only natural in the same way as any other 'disorder' is. If somebody is gay, fine, that may be natural for them, as stealing is for a kleptomaniac or drinking is for an alchoholic. Natural for them? yes, but not to me.
As for how old it is, it doesn't matter.

Actually I lived next too two Gay guys. Nice guys in the aspect they were quite and kept the house clean. But the wearing of the pink bunny slippers and the rainbow t-shirt to get the mail and the constant staring at me while I mowed the lawn or was in the pool with friends was almost to much sometimes. BUT in reaction the the theory " you are born gay not taught " I must oppose. I had a friend who was straight and I mean straight He loved women almost more than I do and when those two guys moved in by the time my friend was 18 he was turned towards gays cause he was " neglected " by girls. Thats what he said anyways.

Anywho Just wondering why Profdlp you call pentecostals pew jumpers? I am a member of a pentecostal Church and I've never see anyone attempt to jump one. ( maybe it's because if they tried they would fall and break a hip heh) I also graduated from a southern baptist High school and they were more wild sometimes than the pentecostals.

I also agree with bothered "Christian games? why not? Jewish, Muslim, Hindi games? Why not? It doesn't matter. If they sell there must be a market, if they don't they'll go bust and we'll move on."

Thats exactly what i feel. Cheers!

There's definitely a market for 'child-safe' games of all types. Apparently blowing someone's head off in a game and seeing blood spurt out of the neck, or hacking a corpse apart with your combat knife, are things that parents don't want their kids doing on the computer...

It seems like every week or so I have to refrain from defending my beliefs or someone else's. I keep leaving threads untouched because I know that it's ok as long as several people all bash something together, but as soon as someone voices an oppossing opinion it's a debate - which is largely frowned upon here.

Please people, if you have a beef with religion, keep it to yourself. I'm not beating you over the head with a Bible or a Tanakh or a Quaran.
It's only fair. It's only respect.

I don't think a difference of opinion is frowned upon I think what is frowned upon is the breakdown of those who are less mature in debates which ultimately leads to a flame war. Right now everyone has spoken and given their opinions, no one has lashed out at anyone so no cause for concern.

Like I said, I am only bashing religions that discriminate, disrespect, and take away civil rights. Any religion, interpreted lightly serves as an excellent way to shape your persona around. However it is the people who interpret god's word for well... god's word and don't dare to question the logic that upset me. For example, people who believe all of america is going to hell for eating meat on a friday.

As for Gnomewizardd,
I'm sure those 2 gay guys (who were probably in love with each other) checked you out all the time, just because gay people have a constant need to have the sex with the same gender. Did they snap polaroids of you or something? Not all gay guys, like other guys. The way you make it sound is that all of them are horny 24/7 and will take any male just to sleep with. They have the same amount of hormones as the rest of us guys. Are all straight guys all hot in the pants to sleep with Janet Reno just because she's a member of the opposite sex? No.

Just curious... when did you find out they were gay? And when did they start checking you out? I'm guessing you found out before they started right? And a glance turned into a sexual stare suddenly?

As for your friend. Did you disown him because he's gay? Are you going to let your kids see him? Was he a cool guy? When he turned gay was he suddenly not a cool guy?

I believe this discrimination is on the same level as the discrimination against blacks, hispanics, chinese that has been going on for the past hundreds if not thousands of years. Basically one person thinks they are better than the other race so they stereotype them and don't allow them to vote or own land. Because they are supposedly less human than god's superior white race. Now that someone is gay you see them as a filthy animal who simply wants to get you in bed? You don't get to meet the real person and understand how they are human because you're too afraid of their homosexuality.

The same thing happened with the slaves, they were considered to be animals because of their skin tone, but slowly people began to gain sympathy for them and realize that they too were human beings and not just animals.

Gargoyle, I have to agree with you. There are two ways to keep peace in a tech forum. First, don't bring religion into it. Second, don't bring politics into it. there are other venues for both.

There's a third way, most do not follow that. There is an approach which I try to use:

I happen to have strong beliefs-- one of them is that God truely loves ALL people, not just a select few. But one of them is that others have a reight to believe as they do so long as they do nto restrict my right to believe as I believe. I do not have the right to get in folks' faces due to them being different, nor do they have thta right either. BUT, they have the right to believe as they do so long as they do not get radically in my face about it or take it to use of physical force or excessive punishment of me solely due to my beliefs if I am not punishing them.

So, I these days I think for 20-30 seconds to that many minutes before reacting to what appears to be an attack-- before I post. We all have different beliefs in detail, and we all have that right. We have the right to present ideas without being flamed, and to hopefully have others respect the right of presentation while they have same right. I could say "mellow out," and that is not an attack in intent given the words. to me it means look at the other side's reasons unspoken, and assume not intent to attack until that is proven. Then use appropriate venues to handle that-- in this case, perhaps the PM system or email can resolve lots of issues.
