Crunch-Time: 9100 or 9600?

I sold my Radeon 7500 for $36 on eBay... now I need a new VC for my Secondary Rig.

Should I spend a mere $76 for a 9100/128MB at Newegg, or choke up the $125-$150 for a 9600 or 9600 pro?

Money is tight, but I want this thing to passably play Doom3 and HL2 when they come out...

The 9100 is basically a rebadged 8500, supporting the same DirectX 8.0 features that the 8500 did.

The 9600 Pro, although more money, will provide performance similar (but not quite equal to) the 9500 Pro.

If you can afford the 9600 Pro, grab it. If you want to wait a little longer, pick up a used 9500 Pro or 9700 Pro off E-Bay, flash the card with Warp11's Overclocking BIOS and enjoy your games :)

Sorry 'bout that. I posted it on eBay because I always get more $$$ out of selling video cards there. People don't know about Pricewatch or something...

Or are the soft-moddable 9500's available anywhere still?

I was just kind of disappointed... my Primary Rig scored 3530 in 3dMark03... I was expecting higher. If I can find a soft-moddable 9500, I'd buy that and mod it to a 9700 for my primary and put the 9500 pro in the secondary...
    Hrm.

Personally, if I were in your position, I'd buy a cheap card now (GF4MX/GF2MX/ATi9100/ATi9000/etc. and wait for the games to come out... by then, the current cards will be cheaper, so you'll get a faster card if you wait.
