Just ordered a new notebook...

I ended up going with the Dell Inspiron XPS. :-/ As much as I hate Dell, it was the best option. 1920x1200 LCD, 256MB 9800m, 4yr warranty with accidental damage protection, and hardware monitoring via a program called "i8kfan" (http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/).

The final system specs are:
-15.4" WUXGA (1920x1200) LCD
-3.4GHz Pentium 4
-1GB Dual Channel DDR400
-256MB Radeon9800m
-7200rpm/60GB hard drive
-24/10/24 CD-RW/DVD combo (I have a DVD burner in one of my desktops; I don't need one in my laptop)
-Floppy drive
-Dell 1450 A/B/G mini pci wireless card
-Dell TrueMobile 300 internal bluetooth module
-Additional (132Whrs) battery
-Windows XP Pro
-Office 2003 Pro
-As little of Dell's rediculous 3rd party software bull**** as possible
-2nd AC adapter
-4yr warranty w/on-site service and accidental damage protection

The only problem I have is that it won't be shipped until the 23rd and won't get to me until the 25th because the 9800m is backordered to high heaven. Oh well. I can wait.

Well, it didn't cost ME anything; it was a birthday present from my grandparents. But, anyhow... Before tax? Almost $3900, including a $100 instant price break.

    //EDIT
I forgot the 2nd AC adapter I had to order separately. That brings the total to over $3900 (or over $4k if you want to discount the price break).

I'm used to it. My current laptop is a Sager NP5620. It has a 2.4GHz P4 (desktop P4). And a 7200rpm Toshiba drive that runs a lot hotter than the 7200rpm IBM in the Dell.

Wow. Well, good choice for your situation. Four years is quite a long warranty. Hope it serves you well for a while :)

Ah. I forgot to mention earlier- the notebook cost me exactly $0.00

It was one of the things I got from my grandparents for my birthday. I told them that the Sagers I was looking at were $500-$1000 cheaper, and they said, basically "so what?"

Grrrrrr, I wish I had a LT. It would make coding in class SOOOOO much easier.

For right now, the old one is sitting on my desk at home doing nothing. When I get around to it, I'll RMA it, have the stuff that needs to be fixed fixed, replace the batteries, and use it for something. Not sure what yet, but I'll find something. I may swap the CPU out for a mobile P4 and use it when I need 5hrs+ of battery life (which it should get no problem with a mobile cpu and both batteries)
