    2) Remote desktop doesn't work. I used to be able to remote desktop from my main rig onto my server, with SP2 on the main rig it doesn't work now. I've got the firewall turned off, so it ain't that.... I casn ping the server, and my file shares on the server are still accessible. My second rig (pre-SP2) still connects fine so the server is still accepting remote desktop connections... I'm stumped and it's really annoying me. Anyone got any ideas?

I am able to connect via remote desktop to a SP1 computer from my SP2 computer, maybe its something with the firewall that is acting up?

Or he has the IP wrong, that could happen depending on his network.

Nope & nope.... firewall is turned off & IP address is correct.

update: I now have SP2 installed on 2 PCs.... one can connect to to my server, the other one can't, all remote desktop settings are exactly the same. The machine that can't connect was able to right up until I installed SP2. Dunno what is going on :(

Installed SP2 on my dual Xeon rig yesterday was a few little bugs but after a few reboots and Dfragging and system cleanup everything seems fine.

The new protection scheme seems decient and fairly harmless to my existing programs.

    Quick question...

I'm running the current version of Black Ice firewall, is it ok to run the XP one also at the same time for extra protection?

Currently I'm only running the Black Ice but I was wondering if I enable the new XP fire wall too would that give me an extra ring of protection or is it going to be problem-matic and work to cancel each other out?

    Thanks,

you're only supposed to run one firewall, generally

I would only go with the one but if two doesn't slow you down too much and they play nice, go for it...

I slipstreamed SP2 into my Windows install CD and did a full format and cold install. I haven't really started installing software yet, but all my hardware works.

EDIT: The latest Nero patch fixes the compatibility issues.

No joke! Built in All in Wonder 9800 Pro drivers! Still had to load my VIA drivers, Broadcom NIC drivers, and Soundblaster drivers though...

I turned off all of the "nanny" features. One big problem for me, though. On a regular basis all of the hyperlinks in email messages stop working. Strange as it may sound, if I change any of the security settings and reboot (a simple reboot won't do it) they will work...for a while.

Today, nothing I try can get me into my Wall Street Journal links. Maybe time to try Eudora again...

For the record: Pro w/ SP2 (duh) and Outlook 2000.

Strange little thing with SP2. I now have a local connection icon in my taskbar with a yellow warning sign on it. When you click on the icon it opens a window with the local connection saying there is limited or no connectivity. When I click on repair after a short time it says it can't repair and to contact my ISP. Well I called them and the tech person said my internet is fine and the tests he ran also say it is fine. I have to icons in the internet connection folder. One is the Lan or High Speed (D-Link Ethernet card) and the other is the Broadband connection icon( Modem). I mean everything is working fine and I can surf and receive e-mail but I find it a little annoying to see this yellow warning icon, which I now "Always Hide" instead of looking at it. :Canflag:

To get rid of that 2nd icon, do the following. where it says "notify me when this connection has limited or no activity" unlick that box and hit ok, the icon will then vanish.

Everything seemed to work well for me after upgrade, except I got weird "missing" hard disk errors from Quicktime (solved by renaming or deleting qttask.exe) caused by my media reader and Nero causes BSODs. For whatever reason, updating to the latest Nero did not fix the problem. Surfing the net and forums, a substantial number of Nero and XP SP2 users are still having major compatibility issues. I rolled the OS back to SP1 without changing anything else, and the Nero problems have gone away.

It also improved the reliability of my 802.11G network.

is there a way to slipstream the nf2 drivers and ati cats into a install disk?

Sure. You need to add a sif file as if you were doing a unattended intsall and add them in the OEm path for drivers. Its real picky about what you name the sub directorys. email me and I'll set you up with a sif file and a link to the layout needed. I have custom install cd's for all the differant chipsets I use at home right now for example.

It helps to complain. I've got it today but haven't been able to install it yet. Not enough space on harddrive. Will fix that soon.
