Sally spotted this in http://www.pccasegear.com/

Copied this from the front page of pccasegear.

Active Cool AC4G-D Thermoelectric Cooler: Active Cool has developed the AC4G-D, the world's first smart thermo-electric cooling and noise-reduction system for PC processors. AC4G's patent-pending solid-state cooling represents a significant leap forward in cooling power, processor temperature control and monitoring, and computer noise control. The microprocessor adjusts the cooling power of the thermoelectric unit according to CPU load, so condensation is not an issue. The AC4G-D comes complete with an blue backlit LCD display that is mounted in a 5.25" drive bay, and can also control your case fans at the same time. Available for AMD Athlon 64 and Intel P4 processors.

It certainly looks interesting. Has anyone seen or used one of these??

Any feedback will be welcomed ofcourse. We are thinking about trying one on Sally's P4 3.4gig puter. It seems to run constantly @ 67c according to Sandra and the Abit monitor (which is incorrect). Either way, we know the constant temps so it would be interesting to know the difference.

If noone has used/seen this before, we'll be the Lab Rats and try one.

Jon

Its targeted at the silent/low-noise computing market, not the performance market. Its performance is nothing spectacular, to say the least... also, being that it has a peltier in it, you've gotta be careful about the CPU you use it with. If the CPU is faster than what's on their recommended list, don't use it; peltiers are solid state heat pumps, and if you dump more heat into the cold side than the pelt can move, you'll just saturate it, and the cooler will not work.

Very well explained, thanks Geeky. That being the case, i will stick with the ones you previously recommended. Aerocool HT-101's as they work well in the 3 puters we have fitted them to. Just need 2 more to finish off the ones needing a bit of TLC.

Thanks for the info and speedy reply.

thermo-electric cooling is typically expensive. I'd surely try watercooling before I went that route.
