Thermaltake SmartFan2 ?

edited July 2003 in Hardware
Has anyone had a problem with the SmartFan Two's that the rheostat (or whatever the adjust knob is called) just doesn't work.

I've tried it every which way but am getting (near) constant fan rotation of 4500 rpms.

Just got the fan today. Nothing seems to be wrong with the wiring. I assume I hooked it up right (seemed pretty ID10T proof)

Thoughts?

Maybe the rheostat's fubar. RMA it.

The rheostat is an awfully simple part to phuck up tho... does it work when the fan is out of the case and the rheostat is in your hand? The reason I ask is because if you short either the two leads on the thermal probe connector, or if the exposed metal back of the rheostat, the fan will run @ full speed. If you have the jumper on the lead for the thermal probe, remove it. If you remove everything from both fan speed control leads, the fan should just barely run... if the rheostat is not touching anything metal, and it still doesn't work properly with the fan out of the case on a non-conductive surface, then yes, the rheostat is probably fubarred.
