Dell's got a decent deal on there 1100 right now.

E-Value 6F865-D80809
$699 after $250 rebate

14.1 XGA
256M DDR
24x burner/DVD
30GB HDD
2Ghz cele

I found the code in a mailing, and have yet to see it advertised anywhere. I configured this same laptop on there site and home and business and never got this low of a price. Best I got was a $150 rebate with a higher price.

I ordered one, and if its half-way decent I'll probably pick another one.

halfway decent for... what? It's got integrated Intel Extremely Pathetic graphics, and it's only got 256MB of DDR- the stupid intel graphics are likely to leave you ~200MB or less of free system RAM, and win xp takes 128 in and of itself. You'll have just about enough left over for a word document and a few IE windows. For a business system, it should be passable, for a mobile gaming system, it's a joke. It all depends on what you want to use it for...

Well, for one, I wouldn't touch windows. period. BUT, it should still run just fine for a non-gamer (i.e. professional systems admin, casual user).

Second, what kind of graphics do you need? If your looking for a gaming laptop for $699, your a retard.

This is a steal on this machine. All things are relitive, and if you see a nice alien ware for $699 PLEASE let us know :)

Just checking... believe me, I've had people ask me what the best gaming laptop for $500 is. I usually just glare at them, sigh in total disgust, and walk away.

But, yes, it should be decent for pretty much anything other than gaming. The only other thing I could recommend would be www.powernotebooks.com although their cheapest models are somewhat more expensive than that Dell...

    Ha!
and I started to believe you were retarded from your first post ;)

If you shop around, and even compair the best prices and discounts on the dell site, this is a damn good price.

You always get what you pay for ;)
For new, quality made laptops, this is really cheap. I've seen cheaper, but usually there missing something, like an internal battery LOL

BTW, I'll be running linux using this as a client off my workstation, dual 1600 with 1g ram , 128M LSI scsi raid card, blahblah... So the only time it should have to do more than display a picture is when I'm away in the datacenter working. Then its for terminals into racks of servers, not counter-strike :D

I think its a hell of a steal. Brilliant surf/email pc to have in the kitchen on a wireless dsl. Also decent pc to have on the long flights.

My friend just bought the same setup in a compaq? for $1100 bucks. Same ram, video, hdd. The only diff was he got internal wireless.

Its due to arrive in ~10 days

Almost anyone could think of a use for a cheap laptop, with the one exception of the die hard gamers. Then, if its not ut2k3@80 FPS then its junk and useless ;)

The catch?? you cant configure it. If you do, they rape you on the addons.
