Anyone know anything about SUN systems?

UOP has a program where it'll give students SUN RAY thin clients or something like that. I didn't go for it (a thin client? Ewwwww. I think not), but someone asked me to help get their printer working on theirs.

They have a SUN RAY 1 and a HP PSC-1210 (iirc) all-in-one. The IT department says that basically any brand of printer except HP will work. I know **** about SUN systems, so I have no idea how to make it work, or if it's even possible. HP's site doesn't have any drivers for it or anything. Anyone got any ideas?

//EDIT
Also, is there any way to get any IM programs on here? They wanted to know that too...

    Uh, what OS? Solaris I'm assuming?

    Yup. WTF is Solaris anyhow? A customized version of Unix or something?

    Solaris is SunOS - their own OS based on System V. Solaris is at version 9 now.

    Chances are, you are SOL - That particular printer doesn't speak PCL or PostScript - the two most common printer languages, and two that Solaris can be made to support. It speaks some crap ass thing called LIDL or something. I couldn't find a solaris LDLDIDLDIL layer in about 5 minutes of googling, so I don't think it's happening.

    Maybe some guru will pipe in here with answers. We do sun servers, but not desktop systems - i have no experience whatsoever with Sun desktops or blades. :(

    That's been my experience with printers as well... ;D

    I wish I could help, but I don't know anything about Sun.

    Your IT department would have to answer all those questions. That blade is headless - it's only a terminal for a big iron server somewhere. You're not really "installing" anything on the computer itself. That server will be locked down tight by the admins, so you'll need to find out what you get, what you don't get, and all the other specifics from the IT staff.
