Pocket PC Recc's

edited July 2003 in Hardware
Anyone use a Pocket PC and want to tell me how great (or awful) it is.

I'm thinking about asking for one for my birthday and am trying to figure out which model would be best.

WiFi is a plus (or if it's easy/cheap to add.)
Expandability is good
Portability is my biggest concern, it needs to fit in my pocket without much rearranging/effort.

I can't seem to find a site that really compares the major models. I've looked at HP/Compaq, Viewsonic, Toshiba, Dell, any others worth looking at?

TIA

Personal reccomendations are great or if you can point me towards a site with good reviews of a few different models

Does it have to be a Pocket PC? The Palm Tungsten C is much better than any PocketPC... it's got a 400MHz Intel cpu and 64mb of memory, but it's running PalmOS, which is much more efficient than Windows...

It doesn't have to be a PPC.

I've use Palm OS devices in the past (M100, Coupla Sony Clies, etc) I wasn't terribly pleased with them, but I also wasn't terribly disappointed.

The Tungsten C seems to be a bit on the expensive side.

The Tungsten T is probably more realistic. Maybe a T2, if I can find a deal on it.

I've got the T... it's certainly faster than other PalmOS handhelds I've used... however, even @ 150MHz, it's still too damn slow to read large pdfs without lagging between pages...

I've heard good things about the Dell products, I don't have one myself but it may be worth looking into.

Get the Dell Axim X5... it's a little bit on the large side, but the price/performance ratio is amazing!

//edit: and you can get a $40 802.11b CF card for it to get WiFi...

The HP Jornada 7XX series are nice, though maybe a little old now.... Cant stand PDAs without keyboards.

For price to performance, go Dell Axim. I have an HP iPaq H5455. It kicks ass! I love it. It cost me $600 though, so that may be a little much. It has built in WiFi and Bluetooth. Fun to play around with, but no practical use for me at the moment.
