Do you know what brand of hard drive it is? You should download the drive manufacturer's diagnostic tool, that will definitely tell you the problem.
Each manufacturer has their own diagnostic tool. The tool makes a bootable floppy and when you boot off of it, it runs a full test on the drive to determine if it's actually broken or if it's just a data problem.
Well that sucks. I looked for you and apparently Toshiba doesn't offer a diagnostic utility. All I could find was this, which basically says "You're screwed. Thanks for shopping!"

I'm sure they'd be thrilled to sell you a replacement HDD for 2x what you'd pay at Newegg, though...
if it helps, i use the ultimate boot cd because it has a whole ton of diagnostic utilities on it and it's bootable. it downloads as an iso and you can burn it using nero or whatever program you use that can burn iso files. i've always used the ibm drive fitness test even though it wasn't a hitachi drive or ibm drive. it detects it but says it's an unknown disk. Still scans though. you might want to try it to see whether your drive is actually going. most likely it is because of the clicking.
