Heatsink won't fit tightly

The clips seems fine but my Thermaltake heatsink won't fit tightly unto the CPU.

I can move the sink around after it has been clipped on. I have to leave the case on it's side because if I stand it up, I get overheat warning and the computer shuts off.

I DON'T want to buy a new heatsink. Any ideas on how I can get it to fit tighter? It was fine when I bought it. After a few installations it no longer fits tightly.

maybe you can get a replacement retension clip for that particular model ...or maybe you can bend it a little to get better retention out of it but make sure you don't over do it and crush the die.

I tried bending it back but it still won't fit tightly. I think I'll just get a new one, ugh.

I can move all the retension type HSs I have in parallel with the motherboard.

Get something that uses the bolt holes. You just remove the mobo once to install it then you set it back and then put the sink in place. From that point just 4 spring loaded screws undo the sink and it's off! Nothing to wear out that way. That's just my $.02 and preference.

At first I had a tight fit and no overheat warning.

Now I can move the HS around and I'm getting an overheat warning (with PC shutting off)

Have you tried taking the HS off and reseating it?

Maybe its sitting on the ZIFF socket and not completely on the CPU core. I thought I had it on the core but part of it was on the socket and the core was barely touching the HS. It also heated up like crazy.

Would you post a pic or link to a pic of your particular HS model? If it's the type I think you have, I've probably got a no-cost solution for you.
