I need some memory sticks for this laptop.

I just got a Dell Latitude CPi-A366XT from someone here, and it works good, but I want to upgrade the memory.

I bought a couple 128 mb sticks of Kingston PC100 SDRAM 144 pin on eBay, but they turned out to be too tall. It seems that the Latitude CPI-A366XT and other Latitudes use what's called a "low profile sodimm" memory module.

The memory sticks I need measure 1 inch tall and 2-5/8" long.

The Kingston sticks I have are 1-1/4" tall. Not only can they both not fit in the laptop, but even with one stick in it will not boot up.

So does anyone have any? I'd like to get 2 128 mb sticks if possible, or the closest thing to it.

I've been looking on eBay, but the photos and descriptions of the memory sticks aren't giving me enough information to spend more money and wait a week+ to try again.

I can either pay cash or trade you these 2 Kingston memory sticks for what I need.

Email me at loudmouthtim@hotmail.com or write something here.

Are you averse to buying new? Or are you trying to stay within the "used" price range?

Older laptopslike that are notoriously fickle about RAM. I suggest you go to Crucial and order some. Yeah, it's more expensive, but they guarantee compatibility.

Well, I've got to watch the cash flow. I've already got about $300 tied up in this laptop. For me, that's a lot. The job doesn't pay good AND I'm cheap.

And I've got about $40-$50 worth of memory sticks here that I can't use.

I'm not concerned about getting the absolute best brand of memory for it, I just want to get 2 sticks of 128 in it that will work reliably.

Anyone want to trade these 128MB Kingstons for some memory that will work in this laptop? it has to measure no more than 1 inch tall by 2-5/8" wide, 144 pin SODIMM. PC66 is what crucial.com says it needs, but I wonder if PC100 may work also.

I doubt PC100 will work. Older laptops like that are so incredibly fickle it's not even funny. The only way to guarantee that it'll work is to buy it from Crucial or someone else that guarantees it.

He's right, Tim. You can't just stick any old memory into those laptops. They have to be specific for that machine. What's worse: Spending $100 to do it right, or spending $30-40 three times until you luck out?

Yeah, I guess that may be a better way to do it.

I wonder if I can put a single 256 mb stick in one slot, or would have to be 2 128 sticks?

All depends on what Crucial says

I put one of those Kingston sticks back into the laptop today, and it booted up and ran fine. It works better with 128 mb than with 64mb! But there's no room to put any size second stick in the memory bay.

I found a 128 mb sodimm on eBay that came out of the same model laptop that I have, so I bought it.

I put these 2 Kingston sticks on eBay for $24.99 with a $50.00 Buy It Now option. Someone bought them now in 2 hours and 5 minutes. Dammit! I should have made the Buy It Now $60.00 !!!

Well, the new stick will cost me $50.03 with shipping, and since the 2 Kingston sticks are selling for $50, I'm not losing out on the deal. And I bought the 2 Kingston sticks for $33 including shipping on eBay!

So once it gets here that will get me up to 192 MB in the laptop. Then once I find another 128 mb stick I'll boost it to 256 MB.
