New video card $100-$150

A friend is building a new system and has purchased all of his components but the video card. He wants to stay in the 100-150 range in price. It's and nforce2 board (i think A7N8X) 2400 mobile processor. Currently has a geForce card and likes nView. He already has separate video capture card so that is not needed in a video card. Basically he is looking for comparison of nvidia to ati as far as performance and software (ati's alternative to nView). And more specifically which manufacture (if there is much of a difference). He has bought his other components for newegg and has be reasonably satisfied with them. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am running into the same dang dillemma, and it's driving me up the wall!
    My situation:
I WAS running a GeForce ti4400 128 meg (RARE), when the fan started going out. I bought an extreme giant III cooling system, but during installation, it seems a peice of matter got wedged between one of the mounting points, and the pcb, thus damaging one of the buses. So now, I'm running a GF4 ti 4200 64Meg, that DOES NOT do the job.

I THOUGHT I wanted to buy a BFG GeForce FX 5600 Ultra for around $100...but nobody's in stock, and probably never will be again. And on top of that, I find it very difficult to compare specifications between the GF4, and GF FX series of cards simply because of the way Nvidia "numbers" their card varieties. On top of that, the architectures are different, so even though memory/clock speeds may be faster/slower, it doesn't actually make the card itself perform better, or worse.
WHAT THE HECK DO I SPEND MY MONEY ON!?!?!?!?!?!?
    JESUS this sucks.
There has got to be a website out there SOMEWHERE that has documented STOCK speed synthetic benchmark comparisons of all these cards, but I haven't found it!

Someone make my head stop hurting, and just tell me what to buy...(Must be at least 128Meg, faster than a Ti4400, and ~$100)

Trust me...I've been "researching" all day, and gotten nothing but a dang headache.

For that price, Radeon 9600 Pro or Radeon 9700 Pro if you can find it.

This is the best broad vid card comparo that I know of.
Pick a couple of cards that you know the prices of, see where they rank in your favorite games. and then look to see if you can get a faster card for less money.

    My bet is a 9600XT.

Ok, after looking in the refurb section at some of the radeons he wants to know which would have better performance 128 mb 256 bit or 256 mb 128 bit. My initial instinct is the 128 mb 256 bit but I don't have any experience or proof :). Opinions?
