    You'll need to post the contents of your client.cfg so we can check it out.

    I couldn't open it with Notepad because after installing SP2 it disappeared but I did open it with Wordpad and here is what it gave:

    [settings]
    username=Trogan_1000
    team=93
    asknet=no
    bigpackets=no
    machineid=1

    [http]
    active=no
    host=localhost
    port=8080
    usereg=no

    Thanks :)

    Ok, what you can do with the text console is this:

    Find where you put the file you downloaded.

    Open a Command or DOS Prompt session (How exactly you do this varies by Windows version, so please tell us what version of Windows you have, OK???) For XP, to run the console client you do this:

    Start|Run|CMD.exe|Click OK button

    Go to the directory you put the file in.

    Run the console client .exe file, like this:

    <FileName.exe> -config (or you can use -configonly instead of -config and then run the client again after it exits, I just let it configure itself and then continue to get itself set up and start working by using the -config switch)

    NOTE, the name of the file needs to be substituted for FileName.

    It will run a configuration script, and the first thing you will get asked is for a User ID. Give it a name (then tap the ENTER key on your keyboard), and if you have not done so, go back to the page you got it from in your browser and type in a User Name you want to use and and Folding will check to see if the name is in use. If it is not in use, you can use that ID, but if you duplicate someone else's user name THEY will get the credit for work done.

    Next, it will want a team number, and Short-Media's Team is number 93, so tell it 93 by typing in 93 (then tap the ENTER key).

    The rest can be simply answered with the ENTER key tapped once unless you want to look at the advanced settings, in which case when it asks about advanced settings you type in yes to get it to talk with you about those. I tend to tell it not to get timeless WUs becasue I know my box can handle timed WUs with deadlines. BUT, question then becomes, can you tell us what your computer has in it as far as CPU and RAM??? If it is a real old box, you might want to tell it YES simply because timeless WUs have no deadline and although they are Tinkers they will work fine on older boxes. I also know my computer will handle big memory WUs so I tell it yes for those in the question about work units over 5 MB in size.

    The one thing you might also want to choose is to have it ask before connecting to the internet if you use a telephone line and a modem to dial up to get to the internet for browsing, but then you get to tell it to connect to turn in WUs, it will wait for you to do this after every WU completes if you do this. I have an always-on Comcast connect here, so I just tapped the Enter key and let it not ask. This is also in the advanced settings part of config. And in many cases just choosing to tap the enter key on keyboard for all the advanced options will work, though some will get you a wide variety of WUs and almost no timeless ones until Folding Assignment servers catch on that your computer cannot do dated and dealined WUs.

    Please tell us about your computer and basicly what kind of web connection you have, we can then give you more exact settings and switches to use. THANKS for folding with us.

    You get the signature by going to the signature generator:
    http://www.teamshort-media.com/stats/generator/

    You have to turn in a WU before your name will show up on the list, though.

    You get the Team 93 banner under your name by going to your User CP/Profile Settings. There is an option to enter your Team 93 Username, once that's updated you get the box under your name in all your posts.

    Hi, I did the other things you mentioned, for example, I put my name as Trogan_100, Team - 93 and for the other Questions they asked I simply typed NO for all of them.

    I have a broadband connection.

    System Specs:
    2800+ (2.08GHz) AMD Athlon XP HE
    512MB DDR-SDRAM 33MHz
    80GB Ultra DMA hard drive (7200rpm)
    DVD-rom drive 16x max
    DVD-writer +R/+RW

    Does that help?
    Thanks

    You were set up OK before - I'm not so sure now. One thing is that you should type "yes" for 'advanced options?" so that you can set preference to FAH.

    Do I need to do anything now? How do WU's work?

    Just let Folding@Home run and when it finishes a wu you will be able to customize your sig... Since you have a broadband connection, though, you should set it to automatically send and recieve work. It will make things a lot faster and easier. :thumbsup:

    Reconfigure it, or manually change the config file...

    How do I do that?

    I get this from client.cfg:
    [settings]
    username=Trogan_1000
    team=93
    asknet=no
    bigpackets=no
    machineid=1

    [http]
    active=no
    host=localhost
    port=8080
    usereg=no

    Do I change in there?

    sorry for asking to many Q's but i'm new to all this.
    Thanks

    if you make changes you have to stop and restart the client for it to take effect.

    For the no-nosence consle: Go to Start, Run, then migrate to your folding at home directory, then type "FAH502-Console.exe -config" then enter. that should bring up the config screen and you would just answer the questions. One note: you want to answer yes to change advanced config so you can get to the other varibles.

    If you are using the GUI form of FAH there is a place to configure by right clicking on the cog in the task bar should reviel that option.

    Also you can look for EMIII at this forum or google it, DNL that and intstall it, its one of the many different progys that will keep track of whats going on with FAH on your box. Its a cool little progy...

    Hope this helps, GL and welcome to the team,

    "FAH502-Console.exe -configonly" will allow you to configure the client but will require you to restart in order for it to take effect ...in case you make a mistake you can easily redo it without problems. Just in case.

    It may be set up automatically ...I'm not sure why you need to re-configure ...someone else would have to answer that. I guess whoever suggested it. It probably woould be a good idea anyway.
