Windows, games brace for powerful chip

The Athlon 64 chip from Advanced Micro Devices is coming out toward the end of September, and software that takes full advantage of the chip won't be that far behind.

Wow! Wonder what Intel have to say about this. An os more or less SPECIFIED for Amd 64/Opteron.

    Come on fellas. We all know the Prescott will be able to smoke the Athlon64.

    I've heard that Intel will be reviving it's own x86/64 cpu that it had left for dead, Yamhill is it? i guess intell is starting to feel threatened now.

    I wonder if Windows Longhorn will be 64bit when it comes out.

    Current version of Longhorn is not. If they do one, it will take time.

    AMD made a smart move recently adding 3COM Ceo to their board. Maybe he will help them stop bleeding red ink and make a profit...

    Oh, I've no doubt about that. But, AMD fans (me included!), AMD definitely has a sizable lead on this. This has the potential to do for them what the Thunderbird Athlons did - more market share and respect. AMD has some great innovations from time to time, but they have to fight for every inch of ground they take. And I guess that's why we enjoy watching them so much!:thumbsup:
