    Josh-

You have a couple of funny (and unGoogleable) processes running there... :eek3:

I noticed that too..but I doubt its anything too malicious. I will be looking into when I get home. Most likely is just some stupid spyware.

EDIT//Uh oh...Looks like I did get a trojan or two somehow. Removed by the time I get home from school. Thanks for pointing it out.

(wonders why antivirus didnt pick them up)

csimon, I noticed you have spoolsv.exe running in your processes. I ran a search on it (I also had spoolsv.exe running) and it can be a number of trojans. You may want to look into it yourself. http://www.symantec.com/search/

thanks ...so how do I know if it's legit or not?
do I need it or do I disable it?

The spooler service is responsible for managing spooled print/fax jobs.

Note: The spoolsv.exe file is located in the c:\windows\System32 folder. In other cases, spoolsv.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager.

    It's not using any processes.

How do you disable the Printer Spooler Service?

If you don't print, you don't need it. If you turn off the printer spooler service and it goes away, no trojan.

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger is a good quick fix scanner

I don't have a printer attached to my computer, so I turned it off. Why waste resources.
I do print/plot ...I print/plot from all 26 computers that I have including the one at home ...but I don't have a printer/plotter attached to any one of them.
I turned it off in task manager and it disappeared. So I guess no trojan.

edit:// I just printed something and now it's back again!!! ;D

Hmm...O_o I guess its just a printing service. When I searched it on Symantec, it showed a ton of trojans though...lol. ;D

    Thatsa good thing!
I'd like to think that my AV would catch a virus before I got infected but you never know.

Think I'll take the plunge and get big ones for my two big main production machines

Been avoiding them until I sort of knew what I was doing - guess I sort of know now ;D

Well, yes and no. I go home during the summer. The only way I can keep my room cool enough as it is (without the comps. folding) is to go around the upstairs and close every AC vent except the one in my room most of the way and leave mine wide open. And even then sometimes it gets hotter than I'm comfortable with...

    Waaaah.

I slept in 90* rooms in the summer for 18 years and 5 months of my life. I'm 18 years and 8 months. ;)

Damn Geeky, spend a little money and put a window ac in your room for the summer. That way you can still fold and be cool. My computer room stays between 68-75 with a 9500 btu window ac augmenting my central air and that's with 6-8 computers running. Of course you would have hell sleeping with all the noise from them ;)

...watercooling takes care of the cpu, not me. The CPU temperature isn't my concern. They run nice and cool as it is. But the room gets too hot for me to be comfortable.

Ok do what I was thinking the other day, WC the PC but take the RAD outside that way very little heat is being dumped into your room.

I'll host your folding rigs too, Geeky! :D

Marc, me and theSMJ talked about "central watercooling" one day too. Have a central wc radiator outside and have cool water hookups in your computer room.

Exactly. I was thinking about WCing all my extra (4) computers that way. The biggest reason would be because we will most likely be getting a smaller Apt with no basement so heat will be a bigger problem. Plus ice cold water in the winter.:D

Sorry everyone to bring this thread back again but I have a little question.

I saw some of you have more than 1 FahCore_78.exe running in Task Manager on one computer (I think), How is that? Also, most of your(s) FahCore_78.exe have 100,00+ mem usage, how do you get it that high? Mine only uses max 14,000+ and min 7,000+.

    Thanks

The ones that have the memory usage in the high range have enabled large work units when they went through the initial configuration. I wouldn't recommend it unless the computer is directly under your control and has a minimum of 256 megs of ram. Keep in mind that these large work units can have an impact on other programs running due to the large footprint it maintains in ram. They are worth more points per processor time due to the system requirements.
