I just remembered this funny incident

It is regarding my present cpu.

My dad had bought himself a barebone system.
It contained an Athlon 1800+ retail.

I had recently acquired my Abit NF7-S rev. 2.0 and I was chugging along with my ancient ADFA Athlon T-bird. :hrm:
Not very funny, new mb and stuck with the ancient processor that refuses to be OC'ed very much.

Oh well he offered me to take a look at the 1800+ processor.
I had been browsing around for a super 1700+ but they were rather expensive and not widely available.
He pulled the heatsink off, and there it was, a jiuhb dut3c retail processor.
I was very interested indeed, even though it was not the dlt3c I had hoped for.

Then he offered me to take it home and check it out.
I could not refuse that offer.
I went home with the processor and out went the old t-bird.
In went the new one, I went into the bios and bumped the speed up to 2.0 Ghz (200x10) it booted and worked fine.
But Prime95 reported an error.
I went into the bios again and upped the voltage to 1.7V.
Now it passed with flying colours. :respect:

Needless to say my dad never saw this processor again. ;D
I paid him for it and he went out and bought himself a 2400+.
We were both happy with that deal.

I just thought I wanted to share my little cpu love story with you guys.
I have had the cpu for quite some time, but it was only recently I thought of writing this little post.

Now that I am getting a new PSU I should be able to find the limits of this little baby.:D

My family encourages me to upgrade every chance I get, since they always get an upgrade, too. (My old stuff would just move on down the line.

Nice of your dad to help you out!

I enjoyed your story. That is one big benifit to this hobby - our excess blesses others. I just built my sister and her kids a new machine based 60% on parts from my two previous machines. Her new machine features Samsung 'C' PC2700, an Athlon XP2000+, and an Abit KX7333-R. Top tier performance? Of course not; but it will run rings around any other computer she could have purchased for the same money from a vendor or custom shop. Yes, she did pay me, but the labor was free - including transferring all her programs and data over from her Win98 system to XP Pro, NTFS. Hey, she got a couple parts from me for free, too.

Earlier this year, my dad asked me to spec out a new computer for him. I did so, and made it pretty close to top of the line. To my surprise, when the stuff arrived, he gave it to me, and he got my old computer (wasn't too shabby, 1500+, 512ddr, radeon 7500... but he still payed for it :D. mmm...free stuff.

There is also this guy I help out when his computer is acting up.
Recently he threw a Celeron 400 at me, later I sold it to my sister.
She needed an upgrade badly, she was using my old K6-200, it was way too slow.
Free computer for me, sold it to my siter and made a small profit.
    That is called business. :D

I had to help this guy again the other day.
One of his drives had suddenly dropped the FAT.
    It was a FAT32 drive.
The drive appeared empty but it was not.
I ran some recovery software and retrieved approx. 10,000 images.
As you might have guessed, he was quite happy.
But how can a drive suddenly loose its FAT?
BTW after recovering all of his images I tried running scandisk.
Guess what, it reported no errors.
I reckon that he lost no more than 5 images in this ordeal.
Not too bad, all things considered.
