Their servers were getting hammered harder than a Cancun college girl on Girls Gone Wild. Wait a few hours, maybe 24, and I bet they'll let more through. They had to throttle the amount of incoming people.
i got the whole file downloaded, but it's corrupted !!!
ahh, gotta wait for thrax to finish, so he can transfer me the missing bits for my file.
It's not corrupted so don't delete it. Mine did the same thing last week. They have done something that makes you use winzip or it will report corrupted. Get winzip and it will work. I downloaded it 3 times before I figured it out
...And I thought WC3's cinematics were good... And before that I thought Diablo II's cinematics were good... And before that I thought Starcraft's cinematics were good...
How many people here agree with me that Blizzard kicks ass with cinematics??
OK, seeing as you're here Rob, and seeing as I am not familiar with the back story to Warcraft....what will be in demand? Tank? Healer? Tradesman? (I'm good at buying low and selling high) or???? I'm not much into magic so, unless the only healers are also primarily magic based, I'm not really into being a mage.
Every class in WoW is in demand. They're all balanced such that all of them can fulfill multiple roles within the game.
For example, the Warlock is primarily a magic-based class, however one of their conjured demons has enough hitpoints to be a tank in a pinch. They can also heal in a pinch with healstones, and resurrect in a pinch with their soulstones.
The same goes for other classes. A Rogue has enough hitpoints that one can tank, same for a hunter, etc. A healer will probably be in demand in the higher game, but there were plenty of them running around.
The only healer is the Priest, and they're strictly magic. I may be wrong on this in that the Paladin has heal spells, but I don't know the strength of them.
Any class/race combination has a variety of tradeskills available to them, but I believe it was changed so you can only pick one and make it a profession. Many races have additional tradeskills available that don't count against the profession. Additionally, there are subskills that don't count against professions or racial skills. Any class can be a tradesman, as the class itself isn't there.
If you like to beat things silly, maybe Hunter is your bag. They have pets, they can use guns, one and two handed weapons. Paladin, Warrior and Rogue may also be right up your alley.
World of Warcraft is definitly the best MMRPG I have ever played. It is an absolutely amazing game. For those of you who are wondering it will cost $15 a month and is worth every penny of it. It is a beautiful game and as Thrax said above there is never a moment where you don't have anything to do. The only people who complain about not having enough to do are those without an imagination and creativity. If you take some time to give everything a try and enjoy yourself instead of power leveling you won't be disapointed. Open Beta started yesterday and I have a few Alliance characters on the US East coast server. Even with the latest train wreck of a patch it is still a great game. A definite must for RPG fans and well worthy of a try from anyone else.
//edit: Each player can have two professions. These are things such as mining, blacksmithing, alchemy, herbalism, tailoring, leatherworking, etc. There are some professions which compliment each other such as mining and blacksmithing, and skinning and leatherworking. You can only choose two so make your choice wisely. You can always forget a profession once you learn it and choose another but if you do you lose all progress you made in that profession. Aside from your two professions there are also three secondary skills that you can gain. You can have all three skills so you don't have to pick and choose. The secondary skills are fishing (a source of food and reagents in some cases), cooking (allows you to build campfires and cook fish and other animals), and first aid (lets the player make bandages for a quick heal after a fight). The secondary skills are very useful from what I have used of them so it is beneficial to grab all three.
