Booting WinXP Pro from Flash/Thumb Drive

edited December 2004 in Hardware
I have put XP Pro embedded onto a flash drive and booted from the IDE cable, but I put the same onto a 2Gig thumbdrive and get a drive error, the BIOs does not want to recognize USBport with a bootable version of Windows...has anyone had success with this...please email me directly,

have you verified that your bios supports usb boot devices. Most current bios have this option. Make sure its in enabled. Also make sure that you have that device set as the primary boot device.

On another note some systems use hdd 0 as the boot device however thats usually with system that have a built in onboard flash card reader.

You can't just "copy" files onto another device and still have it "bootable"
