I assumed that IBM was using Hitachi drives
exclusively

WD... easily.
I've had 3 80gigers fail on me. each lasted about a year... one lasted only a month.. and my 200GB just failed two days ago... lasted a little longer than a year.... lost a sh**load of information.
My next buy will probably be seagate....

I have 2 80gb drives in my curent rig WD.
Had them for over a year both run as good as the day i got them.
if they fail i will switch to hitachi (another brand a sware by)
